CHANCHA VIA CIRCUITO ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM

Argentian producer Pedro Canale aka Chancha Via Circuito returns from a three-year sojourn with his long awaited third album, Amansara.  Originally coming out of Buenos Aires’s famed digital cumbia scene, Chancha has notoriously broken way outside those boundaries to forge unprecedented mergers between Brazilian rhythms, Paraguayan harp, Andean mysticism and the solitude of Argentinian folklore – all processed through his own futuristic style of post-dubstep.  Chancha’s sound is without question truly unique and instantly recognizable to the point he has become a key reference point for an entire crop of artists that have begun to carry his genes.

Hailed by the Washington Post, The New York Times, Pitchfork, NPR and countless others, Chancha Via Circuito defies even the shrewdest of marketing geniuses.  On one hand, he is something of a cult artist within micro-circles of electronic music, having been invited to perform at Montreal’s MUTEK as well as the Roskilde and Vive Latino Festivals. At the same time, Chancha’s music has found broad appeal outside of the avant-garde, most notably his magnificent remix of José Larralde’s “Quimey Neuquén” which was heavily featured in 2013 as part of the final season of the critically acclaimed television series Breaking Bad. Fans of the show undoubtedly remember Walter White burying his millions in the desert, soundtracked by the wide and gentle grooves of Chancha Via Circuito.

Amansara is a natural progressing of Chancha’s special strain of electronic South America. Lead single “Coplita” features the haunting vocals of previous collaborator Miram Garcia, while “Sueno En Paraguay” merges Andean folklore sounds with bleeps and blips and pounding drums in a way that sounds completely natural and ordained. “Jardines” features the driving vocals of Lido Pimienta merging with heavy synths, percussion and bells into an unforgettable track, while both “Tarocchi” and “Guajaca” ramp things up into deep, electronic dancefloor inna rainforest territory.

Art for Amansara comes from Argentinian psychedelic folklore painter Paula Duro who has crafted the look of all of Chancha’s previous releases.

Amansara is out on September 23rd CD, digital and LP in North America and Australasia through Wonderwheel Recordings.

The Pineapple Thief is offering fans a free download of the new track “Simple as That” from the band’s upcoming 10th studio album Magnolia at: emailunlock.com/kscope-burningshed/the-pineapple-thief-simple-as-that#. Magnolia is set for a September 16 North American release via Kscope.

“Here’s the opening track from the new album for you, the beginning of a deep and varied journey,” said songwriter and guitarist Bruce Soord. “I hope you get as much from our new music as we do. Thanks for your support!”

Additionally, a Magnolia instrumental teaser video is streaming on YouTube at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJrVo9BkURQ.

Magnolia follows the acclaimed 2012 album All The Wars and marks an important turning point for The Pineapple Thief, as it expands its musical horizons beyond the progressive sphere. Recorded at Snap Studios and mixed at Strongroom Studios in London, Magnolia represents the ultimate culmination of Soord’s ongoing quest to raise spirits and connect. A devastating yet uplifting collection of 12 beautifully crafted songs, it showcases the band’s intuitive chemistry and soulful demeanor, cramming a vast array of emotional shades and inspirational ideas into its 47 mesmerizing minutes. Veering from the strident opening assault of “Simple as That,” due to be the first single, through to the cinematic sweep of the closing track “Bond,” it marks an important step in the band’s story, while skillfully encapsulating everything that has made its musical journey such a relentlessly fascinating one.

“All I ever wanted was to write catchy songs that stay with people,” commented Soord, explaining how this record represents an important evolutionary phase for The Pineapple Thief. “The striking thing is that there are no long tunes… all I care about now is writing a good song. I don’t think about whether it’s rock or progressive or commercial or anything like that. As time went on, I discovered I could say everything I wanted to say within a shorter period of time.”

New drummer Dan Osborne, also heavily involved in the production of Magnolia, brought fresh energy and ideas to The Pineapple Thief, strongly contributing to steer the band in a new direction. Completing the line-up are solid bassist Jon Sykes and keyboard maestro Steve Kitch. While string arrangements are courtesy of regular collaborator Andrew Skeet of The Divine Comedy, the stunning final mix was crafted by mix engineer Adam Noble, who has previously worked on albums from the likes of Placebo, Guillemots, Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams and Belgium alt rock band dEUS. The artwork for Magnolia was created by French artist Patrick Gonzales (www.patrickgonzales.net).

1. Simple as That (04:01)

2. Alone at Sea (05:21)

3. Don’t Tell Me (03:35)

4. Magnolia (03:47)

5. Seasons Past (04:14)

6. Coming Home (03:06)

7. The One You Left to Die (04:19)

8. Breathe (02:35)

9. From Me (04:31)

10. Sense of Fear (04:31)

11. A Loneliness (03:22)

12. Bond (04:31)

Formed in 1999 by founder and chief songwriter Bruce Soord as an experimental bedroom project, The Pineapple Thief has since continued to evolve and refine its sound. The group is seen by many as one of the most interesting and innovative rock bands the U.K. has produced in recent years. Previous albums like Someone Here Is Missing (2010) and All The Wars (2012) have made The Pineapple Thief’s reputation and fan base stronger, resulting in interest from a wider audience. Bruce Soord also collaborates with other Kscope artists, joining forces with Jonas Renkse of Swedish band Katatonia on their critically acclaimed Wisdom Of Crowds project. Along with this collaboration, we saw Soord join Katatonia on their recent “Dethroned & Uncrowned – Unplugged & Reworked” acoustic European tour.

With a new, blossoming sound, Magnolia has all the potential to bring The Pineapple Thief to the masses. This, the band’s 10th record, could not only be a milestone, but also a mainstream breakthrough for the band. With Magnolia, The Pineapple Thief has created 12 musical gems that defy all classifications – anthemic, catchy, intense, honest and straight from the heart.

Stay tuned for more information on The Pineapple Thief and Magnolia.

Monopoly Plus

One of the most fun things that my wife and I do is go to Detroit. We have taken a number of trips up to this vibrant city to experience Buddy’s Pizza, Ford Field, and Big Beaver Mall, but one of the things that we always tend to do is to hit up the vibrant casino scene. While the traditional games are a little bit outside of our price range, the slot machines are good values and can make for a fun three or four hour trip to a casino. We were lucky enough to learn about a new slot machine, Monopoly Plus, that looks to be absolutely fun.

One of the games that we are excited to experience the next time that we go up to Motor City or Greektown is the Monopoly Plus machine. The game utilizes some of the most recognizable Monopoly icons and places them into an interactive title that has a wide variety of noises and additional options. Players can level up by accumulating Monopoly money, which provides a number of extra buffs. Achieving level 4 (Luminary) means that for each bonus, two properties provide players with double cash awards. Getting a die (or set of dice) ensure that players receive extra rolls, further increasing the value of each spin.

The Level Up Plus option makes for bigger prizes, while the process of leveling upon the machine allows for other icons to be in play. The Super Tax Relief option invites players to take on a mini-slot that could ratchet up wins to the tune of 16,000 times. Monopoly Plus is a great new slot machine that will have players continually coming back for more; it is something that has a number of twists and turns that keeps things fresh through numerous visits and sessions. Make sure to visit the online version of the slot machine; players will have tons of fun checking out Monopoly Plus on their computers just as they will whenever they make it to their local casino.

The Melvins Release Brass Cupcake Single

The Melvins share “Brass Cupcake,” a new song from their upcoming album, Hold It In (Oct. 13th, Ipecac Recordings).

soundcloud.com/ipecacrecordings/melvins-brass-cupcake

Joining Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover for the 12-song album are Butthole Surfers’ guitar player Paul Leary and bass player JD Pinkus.  Hold It In was recorded in both Los Angeles and Austin earlier this year.

Brass Cupcake is possibly my favorite track on Hold It In! We wrote this song with Pinkus and Paul in mind, once we knew this project was a go,” explained Dale Crover. “It’s our version of what we think pop music should sound like. Get ready to freak out!”

Digital pre-orders for Hold It In are available now via iTunes with the album lead-off, “Bride of Crankenstein,” offered as an immediate download upon order: geni.us/MelvinsHoldItIn.

Haley Bonar announces new single 'Last War'

Haley Bonar releases her new single ‘Last War’ on 13th October 2014 via Memphis Industries. It’s taken from her debut UK album release, also titled Last War, out 29th September.

Ushered in by Haley’s plaintive one-string baritone guitar riff, ‘Last War’s relentless crescendo builds to devastating emotional climax, propelled on a wave of melodic noise. ‘Last War’ is accompanied by a suitably heart wrenching video youtu.be/6AzfREgoDGE

Bonar is excited to play her debut UK shows this autumn in support of Last War.

27 Oct – Brighton, Green Door

28 Oct – Bristol, Start The Bus

29 Oct – London, The Lexington

30 Oct – Manchester, Gullivers

31 Oct – Glasgow, Nice N Sleazy

01 Nov – Liverpool, L’pool Music Week

Haley Bonar was first discovered by Low’s Alan Sparhawk. He spotted her at a local open mic club in Duluth, Minnesota and was so impressed he immediately invited her to join them on tour. Which is how, a week later, nineteen year old Haley Bonar, was transformed from college student to ambitious dropout, crammed into a Honda Civic with a guitar and a drummer for company, touring the US opening for Low.

But there is more to this story. In the decade since Haley has released a succession of recordings, each of which have garnered more praise the last, and has seen her collaborate with the aforementioned Alan Sparhawk as well as the likes of Andrew Bird (with whom Haley occasionally plays live) and Justin Vernon (who features on the new album).

Much of the joy of Bonar’s songwriting is in the tension between her sparkling melodic sensibility and her deeply ambivalent lyrics. The pop positivism of album opener ‘Kill the Fun’ belies the songs theme, as Bonar chronicles travels with a lover, taking some moments to reveal the nature of the relationship: “You’ll be here till morning / You will get back on the plane / Go back to work / where you never knew my name.”  On ‘No Sensitive Man’ (which features the most Clem Burke-like drums outside of a Blondie record), she claims “I don’t want no sensitive man / I don’t want to talk.”  While on the captivating ‘Heaven’s Made For Two’ Bonar’s daydreaming vocal drifts ethereally as the instrumentation builds from stripped-back beginnings into a country-meets-shoegaze wall of sound crescendo.

On Last War, the complexities hit as hard as the hooks: a smart, careful balance achieved through equal doses of mystery and charm.

Euro Style Axel Office Chair

The chair was well-packed when it came to us at the NeuFutur offices, ensuring that all of the constituent elements arrived without any damage. The construction process for the chair was extremely easy, ensuring that the chair was functional within 15 minutes – while the chair only came with one page of instructions, they were illustrated in an intuitive fashion. The build quality of the chair means that one is provided with a constant experience no matter how often or forcefully one sits down – the Axel Office Chair is rugged while still being fashionable and will work for high-stress settings just as well as it does in the home office. The high-backed Euro Style Axel chair is wonderful for sore backs, while the padding on the arms makes a shift at the chair just fly by.

The leatherette of the chair means that clean-up is easy, while the material itself is resilient to stains. The metal wheels are able to power through carpeting while keeping wood floors mar-free. The chair comes with a variety of tilt settings and lift levels. The overall design of the Euro Style Axel chair is fashionable enough to work in home offices, corporate environments, and colleges due to the neutral colors that Euro Style provides (Gray and White).

The Euro Style Axel Office Chair is available from a number of online retailers including Amazon, while the company’s website will provide additional information about the chair and the company’s considerable product lines. The chair is priced at a point that is eminently approachable for its durability; expect to have this chair for a number of years before having to put in for a replacement.

Rating: 9.8/10

Sunbeam Sound Machine Announce Debut LP 'Wonderer', Out November On Dot Dash / Remote Control

After earning critical acclaim on 2013’s double EP One/Sunbeam Sound Machine, Sunbeam Sound Machine release their debut long player, Wonderer. A dreamy pysch-pop release with heavy emphasis on catchy and repetitive lyricism – the kind that entrances the listener as it transports them to another world.

soundcloud.com/sunbeam-sound-machine/real-life-master

Sunbeam Sound Machine is the brainchild of talented Melbourne multi-instrumentalist Nick Sowersby who writes and records in the sanctity of his garage in Collingwood, Australia. On Wonderer, Sowersby has honed in the washed out dream-pop sound he made his own on his first releases and has created bigger, brighter and more complete ethereal pop music. He has enlisted the musical genius of Stu Mackenzie (King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard) to mix and talented Melbourne based producer Andrei Eremin (Chet Faker, Oscar Key Sung, Banoffee) to master the record. The contribution by these two completely different yet equally magnificent talents has provided a rich and sweeping sound that envelops the listener.

Wonderer plays out semi autobiographically with lyrical questions of self-reflection, self-improvement and self-progression. The listener heads on the journey with Sowersby via the album’s down-the-rabbit-hole tunnel of sound and emotive stimulation. The entrancing sound of Wonderer is transportive whilst retaining an endearing and intentional self-awareness. Though emotive, the album isn’t an emotional slap in the face but rather a journey the listener and Sowersby take together calmly. The layered quality of the record fills any space it occupies; be it headphones, bedrooms or live venues.

Sowersby’s simple lyricism asks questions of the listener as the ambient swirling dream-pop burrows through their ears and etches itself into the brain. It is a layered record that will fill any room when the five-piece band plays the album live.

Though Wonderer often looks inward, the washed-out sonic landscape teases a glimpse at an outward bright horizon. Often the most beautiful elements are visible when one stops trying to see through the haze and lets go. Sunbeam Sound Machine have managed to paint the road of self-reflection with beams of light trying to burst through the smog.

Sunbeam Sound Machine’s debut album Wonderer will be released via Dot Dash / Remote Control in November.

Eileen Carey Interview

1) Let It Go is your latest album. What does it contribute to the story of Eileen Carey, the performer?

I think my music has always had an upbeat, life is good if you just choose to let it happen message in it. It is a personal choice whether to embrace it or not. All my music advocates that embracing….Possibilities 2002, Hearts of Time 2005, Movin On 2009 and now Let It Go.

In the context of your question, I would have to answer that I am sticking to my guns about the messages of faith, hope and doing it; and my music carries that message in the new CD. I am a woman of my word. Do not flip-flop about my beliefs and advice. So in some case this CD is more of the same. A renewal of my commitment to my ideas. Musically as well actually.

2) Which tracks off of Let It Go are your favorites, and what about the efforts make them?

Let_it_Go7.2__99_(800x800)

I am a singer as well as a songwriter…different tracks on this CD are favorites for different reasons. I love my cover of Martha Davis’ 1982 hit with the Motels, “Only the Lonely.” Travis Allen Childress, my producer, nailed the ambience of the song. Obviously the first single off the CD, “Let It Go,” who I wrote with Kathryn Grimm has special meaning to me. It is, being the title song, the summation of this album’s specific positive theme.

But I am really excited about the just released second single, “Bottle Your Crazy Up.” Here’s the scene of the song:  One woman is telling another not to rebound from a bad breakup too hard and too fast.  And here’s what she advises:

Don’t order the tequila, ‘cause you know how you get, Don’t talk about your ex, you ain’t over him yet, You can wear the short skirt, but I’d forget the heels,  And don’t go on about how you feel. . . . Bottle your crazy up!”

100_4494

3) What artists possess the greatest influences on your music?

Well, I am going to start off by listing some of my favs that I have sung as well here: Patsy Cline’s “Walking after Midnight”; Chrissie Hynde & the Pretenders’ “Don’t Get Me Wrong,” also on this Let It Go CD. I always admired Cheryl Crow and did the only version of a Keith Urban and Vernon Rust tune on my last CD Movin On. Songwriters like Diane Warren. I already mentioned “Only the Lonely, and Martha Davis…but also the Beatles, yes the Beatles. I grew up in a suburb of Cleveland playing drums and that had an influence on the tempos of the music I sing.

Didn’t think of my music as “country” specifically, but right from the start country radio picked me up for “That Town”. It originally went to AC but country radio promoter Gene Kennedy picked it up and it got airplay across the country stations.

4) How has your style evolved and changed over the time since your first album?

Music gave me a way to express myself and share what I have learned and what I still hoped for. I am a better singer-songwriter today, but as importantly my style has become more diverse and refined. Let It Go is my best work. Thematically similar to the past, but much more open and fan orientated. We use horns on this record and I even sung a real pop tune in “Walking on Sunshine” that old (late 70s) Katrina & the Wave song. I am country, but I just couldn’t help testing my reach on that. Been performing it on stage lately, and I get nervous every time it comes up in the set; but the response has been gratifying, especially at the Fairs and Festivals where I perform to very diverse crowds on both coasts.

5) Can you describe your creative process and your recording set up for us?

Well, when I start thinking about what is on my mind that needs being said, I start writing songs and looking for material that I identify with and is a challenge for me to sing.

The avenues that my material comes from is as diverse as is my tastes. If I am singing and arranging another songwriter’s song I make it mine. Generally as “Country” as possible. Lyrics are a key element in what I choose to sing.

When I have written or chosen the material I go to Travis and we arrange it so we can send it to these Nashville studio musicians, who have been recording the basic tracks on my music for years now.

The vocals, back-ups, sweeting, solos and other additions are done here in Los Angeles at Travis’ studio. The mixing as well. We master at Sonic Vision Mastering here in Los Angeles.

7) Do you have any live dates or performances that you are promoting?

Just came off a very long spring and summer stint of engagements. House of Blues Hollywood, Rippy’s & Honky Tonk Central in Nashville, Spotlight Artist of the 6th Annual VeniceFest on Venice Beach, CA for the Make A Wish Foundation, Orange County Fair, The Grand Ole’ Echo in Los Angeles, The Doll Factory, etc.

Still filling in upcoming dates to go along with a September 22nd to the 26th whirlwind 5 five days running radio and dance club tour for the new single “Bottle Your Crazy Up,” now booked in Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama.

Also, doing a private party acoustic show on Saturday evening, October 18th, at the Kidd’s Jewelry Heist on Mission St. during the South Pasadena Art Walk. And

I am, with other concerned animal and cat lovers, going to produce a feral cat adoption fundraiser and direct adoption event here in Los Angeles in late November or early December for the holiday season. We will play a set, along with some other friends and artists at the event.

Most of my plans for the Fall besides promoting this single, “Bottle Your Crazy Up,” are my writing and recording a 5th CD. Know what I want to do…can’t wait to get back in the studio.

8) What has been your most memorable live experience?

I have been playing homeless events for some years now; and it is hard to imagine a more memorable experience in recent years than the homeless crowd that danced freely and happily to my music during the 5th Annual VeniceFest for the Make A Wish Foundation on July 28th, 2013. I have had plenty of full houses and appreciative audiences, but that particular “Country in the Sand” afternoon is quite memorable to me. This year was fun, but that performance was special.

Obviously, my performance for winning Americana Album of the Year at the L.A. Music Awards was an inspired show. One not easily forgotten.

But my most prominent memorable moment in music came when I first heard myself on the radio in 2002 here in with “That Town” here in L.A. I knew I was home!

9) What goals do you still have left to accomplish in your career?

Everything! As an independent there are so many things you still must reach to be recognized with the household names. No matter what one might think of it, I expressed exactly what I still have left to accomplish in the opening cut on the CD, “Bring on the big.”

On an artistic level I can’t help but want to continue to make good records and make people feel good. I want to increase my song writing skills, and I want to direct movies. My short but somewhat successful career in film, before music took over, as an actress (Hoffa, Basic Instinct and the original Batman film, along with advertising campaigns like my role in one of Ray Charles’ Diet-Pepsi commercials) has left me with a taste for film.

I want to open or a couple major acts this year and next; and I am starting to work on a new CD. You can never stop striving if you want to earn the audience’s attention.

10) Thank you for your time. Do you have anything else that you would like to say to our readers?

Yes, Country music is about real people and their real lives. It is a wearing your heart on your sleeve music. We are regular Joe’s! We like are music to be about what is real and tangible in our lives! And we like to be able to sing the hook. But mostly, it’s all about the lyrics, the story!!
