CROWN POINT CELEBRATES RELEASE OF CURTAINS

Portland, Oregon-based danceable alt/rock band Crown Point, fronted by vocalist/guitarist Jon Davidson and guitarist/vocalist Russell Stafford, and rounded out by bassist Peter Arvidson and drummer Kaycee Kay, is pleased to announce the release of a new EP, Curtains.  A seven-song collection of melodic, lyrically-driven rock songs with heart, the band easily maneuvers between danceable hooks and sonic layering on its latest offering.
Taking its name from the album’s opening track, “Curtains Drawn,” a highly energetic, melodic rock song, a la Muse, Curtains chronicles the metaphorical curtains that so often stay closed on people’s lives, keeping them entrenched in darkness, fear, and apathy.
“The album as a whole deals with some pretty dark themes, such as terminal illness, death, war, religious imperialism, freedom of choice, and how little time we have on this earth,” explains Davidson.  “And, yet, does it with a beam of hope.”
Writing as a band, rather than as on their debut EP Wolves, where Stafford and Davidson would bring in their own songs and make them into Crown Point numbers, Curtains was written as a collective unit, with give and take and compromise occurring for the betterment of the final album.
“That’s the great thing about working with these guys. What I heard in my head isn’t nearly as good as what you will hear on Curtains. When you have four like-minded driven people, I think that everyone is going to bring something that the others don’t expect,” recalls Stafford.  “That was an exciting part of this album, watching it flourish with creative input from everyone involved.”
“Each band member has pretty disparate influences,” elaborates Davidson.  “Everything from The Rolling Stones to Live to Thrice to Tool to The Receiving End Of Sirens to Awolnation to Needtobreathe, and certainly hints of all these bands show up in our music.”
Quite a diverse music palette between the four members, and yet Curtains, with its diversity, came out quite cohesive.  From the beautiful grace of “The Room,” a simmering, late-night or blurry-eyed morning pop number, through the revved up, danceable rock of “Afterbirth,” and to the subdued “Head First,” the album doesn’t play on one genre or sound, but sounds completely Crown Point.
“We were able to tie together a lot of different styles in a cohesive and unified way,” says Stafford.  “From the completely stripped-down ‘Records On The Radio’ to the straight-up danceable alt/rock of ‘Afterbirth,’ the album makes sense.”
“We really like the way that we were able to create a bonafide rock record without the use of heavy guitars.  It retains rock, alternative, indie, and pop elements while creating a sound that we’d like to think is pretty unique,” Davidson furthers.
“Set Fire” soars with big hooks, a sunny melody, and a rocking rhythm section pushing the song to new heights, while “Better Run For Cover” tones it down a bit for a more introspective, but equally powerful number.
“We used a ton of interesting vocal effects to replicate what we do live.  We added electronic elements.  We added driving, danceable kick beats.  We layered guitars and vocals, yet for the most part, we stuck to creating an album that we can replicate live,” discusses Davidson, when asked how the band plans to pull the record off live.
“We made an album that really draws from our unique musical backgrounds and tastes.  We didn’t try to pigeonhole ourselves into a specific genre, but rather let the songs and sound go where they belong,” says Russell, when asked to sum up the record.  “I think both Jon and I are very deliberate and focused of writing songs that make sense in that regard.  A song like ‘The Room,’ for instance.  You can hear just in the music that it is a very longing, emotionally charged song.  Skip to ‘Afterbirth’ and right off the bat, you know that the song is a poignant and focused arrow of a song.  Listen to the lyrics in every song and you will hear echoes of unity in the music behind them.”
One listen to Curtains and you will realize what the Portland quartet is trying to say: Hope is there, in the midst of the chaos that is life.  Look for the band to tour relentlessly in support ofCurtains, including an appearance at 2013′s SxSW Music Festival.

THE MOTH GATHERER premiers new song

Swedish experimental/progressive band THE MOTH GATHERER has premiered the first song from the upcoming debut album out on AGONIA RECORDS. “A Road of Gravel and Skulls” – a massive, eight-minute massive track full of progressive emotions and melodic slower sections – can be streamed at the following link:

soundcloud.com/agoniarecords/the-moth-gatherer-premiere

The debut album entitled A Bright Celestial Light (cover below) will hit the shops on April 16th in Europe/UK and April 30th in North America. More details on the release below.

A Bright Celestial Light will consist of five original compositions with a total playing time of 44 minutes. The album has been mastered by Karl Daniel Liden (Terra Tenebrosa, Grammy-nominated  Switchblade album) and will feature a guest appearance from Member 001 of The Konsortium fame. The tracklist is as follows:

1. The Water That We All Come To Need
2. Intervention
3. A Road of Gravel and Skulls
4. The Womb, The Woe, The Woman
5. A Falling Deity

THE MOTH GATHERER‘s music is hard to label, due to band’s non-one-dimensional approach towards the songs they create; the experimental/progressive etiquette seems almost too laconic to fully do justice to the spirit of the compositions. The debut offers up long and complex tracks, but still surprisingly simple and compelling. Abundance of tempo changes and variations that surround the album bask in emotionally charged, progressive yet utterly melodic slower sections, addictive enough to stimulate the imagination.

“We just want our music to be an emotional explosion,” comments Alex, co-founder. ”A lot of the songs are about death, missing people you loved who have passed away, and losing hope in mankind. We want the music to make you feel like you can move mountains with it. I wish for that when people hear our music, they start to dream away.”

THE MOTH GATHERER
is recommended for fans of Neurosis, Breach and Cult of Luna.

The band is: Alex Stjernfeldt and Victor Wegeborn, who both handle guitars, bass, electronics, vocals, and drums.

Seeker vocalist comments on upcoming U.S. tour

Dallas heavy metal act on the verge, Seeker, has commented on the band’s upcoming string of February U.S. tour-dates with headliner, Corelia, and I, Omega.

“We’re always excited to be on the road, and the fact that both bands are full of such outstanding musicians makes this tour even better,” said vocalist Bryce Lucien. “We’ve been working extremely hard to step up the insanity of our live show and we will be playing quite a bit of new material on this run, so we’re definitely ready to get back out in front of our old fans and hopefully make some new ones. Be on the lookout for a new song premiere in the coming weeks. See you on the road.”

The upcoming run will commence Valentine’s Day 2013 in St. Louis, Mo. following the release of a brand new single set to drop early February. A full list of confirmed dates can be seen below.

Seeker burst onto the scene in late 2011, playing its first show on October 1st before heading out on its first tour the following week. Lucien describes the band’s sound as, “fast, aggressive, pissed off heavy metal. Everything we do is very raw, passionate and honest.”

Seeker released its debut EP ‘The Antagonist’ last spring for free via the official Seeker Bandcamp page at: seeker.bandcamp.com/album/the-antagonist.

A music video for the track “Serpent Skin” surfaced last fall and can be seen on YouTube at: youtu.be/tLCnc_mHwLg.

With new music on the horizon and a full touring schedule planned for the first half of the year, the current lineup – guitarist Justin Edgerton, vocalist Bryce Lucien, drummer Dustin Weaver and bassist Chris Keasler – is poised to take the band to the next level behind a blue-collar, DIY approach and a non-stop 2013 schedule.

“The fact that anyone cares and comes to our shows is something we’re always surprised by and very proud of,” added Lucien. “We’ve gotten to tour the country several times over, met a ton of really amazing people, and released music that we’re still excited to play every night…and we’ve done all of this completely on our own. We are DIY to our core. We realized very quickly that if we were going to make this happen we would have to step up and create our own future.”

Stay tuned to the official Seeker Facebook page: www.facebook.com/seekertx for new music and tour-dates.

Bully PG-13 Edition (DVD)

Bully has made its way from the festival circuit and onto home video formats. This documentary is directed by Lee Hirsch and is an intimate view into the impact that physical and mental bullying has on victims. While there is some level of antagonism that all school-aged children go through, the actions taken by some of the titular individuals here is shocking. Two different families have lost a child due to bullying, while the actions taken by those bullied seem to be incredibly desperate.

Bully is a film that is tremendously touching and should be required viewing for anyone that either has children of school-going age or is currently a student at school. I believe that a lot of bullying occurs because the bully does not know the impact of their actions. Bully is the first film that I have seen that looks to pull the veil away from the collective consciousness and attempts to provide solutions to what is an endemic problem in schools in the United States and abroad. The hour and forty minutes that comprise Bully will have viewers on the edge of their seats; viewers will continually be shocked at the depraved actions that bullies will commit on their fellow students.

Purchase a copy of Bully when it drops down on February 13th; anyone that has been through the cruel middle and high school periods will be able to identify with the cases that are described here. Here’s to hoping that Hirsch is able to parlay this momentum into creating some substantial social change.

Core Evolution Protein (Vanilla)

Core Evolution Protein is a whey protein isolate that cuts out a great deal of the fat and calories that are typically present in protein-containing products. The product uses Sucralose (rather than Aspartame) to provide flavoring, which comes in Milk Chocolate and Vanilla flavors. Each scoop contains 24 grams of protein on 27.7 grams of material, representing a tremendously solid proportion. There are only 101 calories in each scoop, meaning that those that use two scoops decrease the calorie content of a typical smoothie by about 60-80%; the 1 gram of fat per scoop marks a similar decrease.

The flavor is something that I could easy come back to; while there are only two flavors that HIT Supplements offers at this time, I feel that one could bounce between the two without burning out on the flavors. One last note – the Calcium content of the Core Evolution Protein (3% of recommended daily value increases bone health to a considerable degree. The BCAA / L-Glutamine content ensures that whatever gains that one makes while utilizing Core Evolution Protein will not be in vain; ketosis of muscle simply does not happen.

Simply put, this is one of the best proteins that we have supplemented with so far in 2013. The miscibility of the product is stellar, ensuring that one has a delectable and consistent shake every time. Make sure to check out their website, which will be updated with the company’s newest products. Individuals can purchase HIT Supplements products from Bodybuilding.com. I foresee some great things coming from HIT Supplements; get in on the ground floor to see exactly what I am talking about.

THE INFINITE STAIRCASE RELEASE SINGLE TO BENEFIT HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS

The All-Star project comprised of the NY based band The Infinite Staircase, along with Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ex-Ozzy Osbourne), Morgan Rose (Sevendust, Call Me No One), Kevin Martin (Candlebox, The Gracious Few) and John “JD” DeServio (Black Label Society, Cycle Of Pain) has completed work on “The Pride”, the all-star single set to hit Itunes next Tuesday via Vanity Music Group.

Co-writer, vocalist, and guitarist, Lenny Cerzosie explains the meaning of the song, and the process in which he, and vocalist  Kevin Martin took to get to that conclusion. “In terms of the writing process and the meaning behind “The Pride”… the coolest thing about it to me is that it was written by all of us, it was a group effort. Kevin, being the one who, technically, is not necessarily from the area, but has very close ties, he said “tell me what you guys experienced.. what you guys saw.. what you heard. Tell me what really went on, what people didn’t see.  Your home, your neighborhood.”

“He had a couple of pages full of just ideas, different things, the topics we wanted to touch; One of the main topics was about how the streets, how the beach came all the way to the major boulevards. The streets and our home and our memories, the things that Kevin felt, that we all felt, those were the things to talk about. Then Kevin really took charge of, well let’s now put these things in some kind of order.”

“These are our streets, this was our home” And I said, you know what, that’s awesome, but what about “These are our streets. This is our home.” Cause even though it’s washed away, it’s still our home. He was like “Yeah, you’re right! Let’s do that!” It kind of flowed from there. Kevin said, “Yeah, we are the pride.” And I said “Yeah, because New York, New Jersey, Philly, you know, we’re all about the pride” – and he’s like “Yeah, but I’m talking about the lion’s pride. Forget FEMA and Red Cross and everybody else -  we take care of our own. We’re here for a reason. We are the lion’s den, the lion’s pride, that’s what it’s about. It’s the roar. It’s the pride.” I thought that was very cool.”

“I think in the end, that’s going to be what really touches everybody; that we’re all in this together. This was a group effort and we’re all going to take care of our own and each other and that’s what the song really comes down to, it’s all about the pride.”

The track was recorded with Mike Ferretti at Architekt Music in Butler, NJ where Sevendust recently wrapped the recording of their new album, ‘Black Out The Sun’ and The Infinite Staircase continue to work on their new album.

“The Pride,” is slated for a digital release February 5 as an iTunes exclusive and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Carl V.Bini Memorial Foundation for distribution to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

“Living on the Jersey shore my entire life, I was mortified at the after- effects of Hurricane Sandy,” says bassist JD DeServio. “It was heartbreaking to see all the lives that were affected throughout the tri-state area. Hopefully the song we recorded will benefit some of those unfortunate people. God bless.”

Lenny adds, “It’s nice to know that the Carl V. Bini Memorial Foundation is based on the idea of a hero from 9/11. To work with a foundation like that, that’s already something that of course anybody, especially a New Yorker, would be proud to be a part of, it’s nice to know that we have 100% confidence that all of the money that’s raised is going to go directly to people who need it.The musicians involved did not take a penny, did not ask for a penny, did not expect a penny, some of us even took money out of our pockets to make this happen. It’s a sincere movement, a sincere group and I think in the end that’s what’s going to make this project successful; that everybody involved is 100% sincere and 100% authentic and that’s what’s going to make all the difference.”

The Carl V. Bini Memorial Fund was founded in honor of Firefighter Carl V. Bini, a member of the FDNY tragically taken during 9/11. The fund’s mission is to memorialize the heroism of its fallen hero by providing aid to those who so desperately need it now and in the future.

Ginger and The Ghost confirmed for SXSW and CMA 2013

Sydney based experimental pop duo, Ginger and The Ghost, are proud to announce they will be taking the stage at this year’s South By South West Festival, as well as at Canadian Music Week.
We’ve only just started the new year, but the Aussie band have managed to receive ‘Video of the Day’ on AOL’s Spinner for their highly celebrated video, ‘One Type of Dark’:
The video premiered exclusively through Nylon Magazine in December here.
“Ginger and the Ghost is the kind of music we wouldn’t mind
being on the soundtrack to our life.”
- NYLON

The innovative duo are uniquely weaving their way into the future of music by placing equal importance on visual and musical elements. They hand-make their own sets and installations for each show, using found objects, textiles and projections to create an atmosphere of fantasy, color, and movement, immersing the audience in their  dreamstate world.
In Ginger’s own words: “One Type of Dark” is a story about my inner child’s imagination. As she leaves a subconscious dreamstate  in bed, she floats out of the window and into thoughts of otherworldly places. Questions with infinite possibilities are asked while visions of herself play out fantastical adventures across far away galaxies.  It’s a celebration of our imagination and the importance of keeping it
Ginger And The Ghost’s “One Type of Dark” and “Where Wolf”, released through InGrooves/Fontana, are available on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and all digital retailers worldwide.

PROGRESSIVE-FUNK COLLECTIVE EVERYDAY ANIMALS

LA’s Everyday Animals offer a glimpse into a brave new world; the juncture where prog, pop, and funk meet to create a new beast. Originally hailing from Athens, Ohio, the band honed their chops in open jams and bar gigs, experimenting with tight improvisations and a regularly rotating set list, before moving to Los Angeles as a unit in 2008.

Everyday Animals’ latest LP Under the Tyranny of Good Weather finds the band marrying diverse influences and incredible musicianship into their most cohesive collection to date: a sprawling, funky excursion into the mind of lead singer and writer Kevin Shima.

“The main thing to understand is that I write the songs, but we arrange them together as a group,” explains Shima. “I am essentially the band’s songwriter and producer, but the band gives critical input to the arrangements, and how we play the songs live. So, it’s half way between a band and a solo project in many ways.”

Everyday Animals, rounded out by Adam Darlin (drums), Will Schulz (bass, vocals), Brian Hobart (keys, vocals), also features one very special guest on Under the Tyranny of Good Weather, Mr. Jon Anderson of Yes.

“I began collaborating with Jon Anderson in 2009,” says Shima. “I worked on his album Survival and Other Stories and his orchestral piece Open in 2011 and he sang on our song “False Awakening” from the new album.” Adds Shima, “Yes is a huge influence on our work ethic and our way of piecing the songs together.”

Demiurge / Antaeus Labs

The sheer amount of alertness and energy that can be felt when one begins to supplement with Demiurge is substantial. As it does not contain caffeine, Demiurge can be included alongside pre-workouts and thermogenics alike. Jitteriness is not a problem with the focus provided by Demiurge; the added energy supports drive and higher thought instead of decreasing attention span.

Demiurge is a great energy-creation product as it does not lead into a crash. Rather, the long-lasting energy provided by the supplement gradually dissipates. This allows for further supplementation with Demiurge or replacement with another energy product. I feel that Demiurge has earned a spot in the medicine cabinets of anyone that is looking to increase their personal records and get the focus that they need to successfully finish their workouts.

Pheynlpiracetam is a nootropic along with a stimulant; supplementing with Demiurge as per its instructions will allow for a substantial increase in energy and drive whenever one wants it, for whichever set of activities they enter into (working out, studying, and even staying awake). Antaeus Labs ensures that those that purchase their products know precisely what is present; make sure to purchase Demiurge before the limited supplies disappear. To purchase a bottle of Demiurge, check out the Antaeus Labs store. Bookmark the Antaeus Labs website for information about their 2013 slate of products.

Paramore Announces New York Hammerstein Ballroom Performance 5/16!

Multi-platinum selling artist Paramore has unveiled details of their upcoming North American tour. The dates celebrate the release of their hugely anticipated new album, “PARAMORE,” due in stores and online on April 9th.  The Grammy-nominated band will hit the road this spring, stopping at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on May 16th.  Joining them as the opening act will be LA-based, alt-rock group Kitten, who has already garnered critical acclaim for their “Cut It Out” EP as well as their dynamic live show, and are currently finishing up their full length debut for Elektra Records.
Pre-sale tickets will be available by invitation-only to members of Paramore’s Fan Club and Singles Club, beginning January 28th at 5pm EST, with all remaining tickets then offered to the general public on February 1st at 10AM.  Additional dates to be announced shortly – please see www.paramore.net/tour for complete details.
Meanwhile, the band will gear up for the long awaited arrival of “PARAMORE” with an upcoming series of shows in Southeast Asia and Australia, including a leading role on the latter’s annual Soundwave festival tour.  Always a festival favorite, Paramore will also hit the stage at a number of upcoming European extravaganzas, with Germany’s Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park among those already announced for June and beyond.
Paramore’s first all-new release in more than three years, “PARAMORE” is heralded by the kinetic new single, “Now,” which can currently be heard on the band’s website.  A companion video – directed by award-winning filmmaker/dancer Daniel Cloud Campos – is now in post-production with a premiere date slated for mid-February.
“PARAMORE” is also available now for pre-order with a variety of options including a limited bundle featuring a deluxe box set (which includes two colored 12” vinyl, a 7” vinyl featuring two exclusive b-sides, an 18”x24” exclusive poster & more), a hoodie, and a photo book highlighting the band’s time in the studio.   All packages include an instant MP3 download of “Now.”
“PARAMORE” marks the eagerly anticipated follow-up to 2009’s RIAA gold-certified “brand new eyes.”  The album – Paramore’s fourth full-length studio recording – was produced by Grammy-nominated producer Justin Medal-Johnson, known for his work with such diverse artists as Beck, Nine Inch Nails, Tegan and Sara, and M83.
Paramore – singer Hayley Williams, bassist Jeremy Davis, and guitarist Taylor York – unveiled the album late last year via a personal blog announcement. “The whole making of this album was a rediscovering of ourselves as a band and as friends,” they wrote. “It was a process that allowed us the freedom to explore new territory artistically and to liberate ourselves as musicians, singers, as people! Sincerely, we feel that the best way to give it a name is just to call it what it is. This album is us.”

ENSIFERUM will be touring in support of their mammoth Unsung Heroes full-length released in North America last Fall via Spinefarm Records U.S. Produced by Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, Sentenced, Apocalyptica), with special guest appearances by members of Die Apokalyptischen Reiter and legendary Finnish singer/actor, Vesa-Matti Loiri, Unsung Heroes continues to earn praise from critics and fans domestically and abroad. “…Mount the longboats, light the torches, and prepare for battle,” warns Metal Injection, while Outburn gushes, “Unsung Heroes is a totally solid entry ionto the hallowed halls of Valhalla made by a band that knows what it’s doing,” commending its “epic scope and reliance on catchy melodies.” Stereokiller boasts, “This is nothing short of amazing, beautiful in every way possible.” Elaborates Blistering in an 8/10 rating: “ENSIFERUM weren’t necessarily the first band out of the epic/folk gate, but they’re probably the best… One jaunt through 2009’s thoroughly captivating From Afar supports that notion, as the Finns were able to brandish a mighty sonic sword that kept the speed on 10, the jovial acoustics ‘a hustling, and above all else, managed to bring a sort of mild sophistication to a style that is usually anything but. Essentially, ENSIFERUM doesn’t play the stupid, folk metal game, and on Unsung Heroes, they manage to stay the course with sterling results.”

The Jazz Singer (Blu-Ray)

The Jazz Singer is a high point of cinema, and Warner Bros has crafted what may just be the definitive version of this Al Jolson title. This 1927 title has been mastered beautifully, with a crispness that few films from the decades following this movie could hope to achieve. The Jazz Singer shines as brightly in 2013 as it originally did 75 years before.

The biggest inclusion for this Blu-Ray has to be the various Al Jolson and related shorts; I Love to Singa is a cartoon directed by Tex Avery, while A Plantation Act, Hollywood Handicap, and A Day at Santa Anita feature Jolson eirself. The panoply of Vitaphone shorts, filling about three and a half hours. Of particular note during this section has to be The Police Quartette and Hazel Green and Company; these pieces of history offer viewers with a rare view into the early twentieth century. Rounding out the inclusions in this Blu-Ray edition include a documentary contextualizing The Jazz Singer into the wider American musical theater tradition and a commentary laid down by Vince Giordano and Ron Hutchinson, two of the better-known film historians.

If you are or know a fan of The Jazz Singer, make sure to purchase a copy of this Blu-Ray release at any well-stocked video store. The Warner Brothers website provides a large amount of information about their current releases and the titles that are slated for release in 2013. The MSRP is $36, but online retailers are selling new copies of the title for about $25-30.

Stevens Transport

There are so many trucking companies that are currently in operation. Whether one wants to go and transport the entirety of a house’s contents or materials that would be impossible or impractical to do with normal methods of conveyance, Stevens Transport provides the logistical ability to bring whatever one wants from point A to point B. The care that Stevens Transport takes in ensuring that their shipments make it through is nothing less than astounding, while planning out the logistics of major trips like this is done with the utmost care. On the actual job side of things, Stevens Transport is able to meet or exceed levels of pay, hours, and safety for their drivers. This means that one should look into truck driving schools, which will provide individuals with the abilities that they need for them to make regional or national trips. I believe the benefits that the company provides (allowances and extra training) makes them into a company that is at the cutting edge of transport. This means that Stevens Transport is one of the best trucking companies that we have came in contact with, and they are looking to expand their business in the months and years to come. With so much experience on the road and in the planning games, the company knows precisely what they are doing. I believe that it is this more homegrown touch that makes Stevens Transport such an amazing company, and the website that they have maintained for that furthers that ideal. Viewers will immediately be able to see what I mean when they check it out.

What trips have you taken, and what experiences have you had with Stevens Transport? Have you seen any of their trucks on the roads or have had to deal in any professional fashion with the company?

The Spinney Brothers Score First #1!

The Spinney Brothers, “Canada’s International Bluegrass Band,” are proud to announce that “Memories”, the first single from their latest Mountain Fever Records CD of the same title, has reached #1 on Bluegrass Unlimited’s  Top 30 Songs chart for February. This is the band’s first time in the top spot of the National Bluegrass Survey. In addition, the complete project has moved up to #3 on Bluegrass Unlimited’s Top 15 Albums chart.

From the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Canada, brothers Allan Spinney on guitar and vocals and Rick Spinney on banjo and vocals debuted their band in 1992, featuring a tight brother duet vocal style that was immediately recognized for its energetic and distinctive sound. Since that time, the band has released 8 CDs independently and are recipients of many Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Awards including 3-time Vocal Group of the Year. In 2010, The Spinney Brothers were inducted into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame. Joined by Gary Dalrymple on mandolin and Darryl Hebb on bass, The Spinney Brothers have performed professionally all over Canada and in the United States from California to Maine making them “Canada’s International Bluegrass Band”.

Even with all the accolades the band had gained on its own as an independent artist in Canada, it wasn’t until the band signed with Virginia based Mountain Fever Records, subsequently releasing Memories in 2012, that the band began gaining international acclaim, receiving more airplay and booking more shows in the U.S. “I had been made aware of The Spinney Brothers through a friend who suggested I give them a listen,” states Mark Hodges of Mountain Fever Records. “I watched their progress as a band for about a year and when I discovered they would be in Nashville at IBMA’s World of Bluegrass conference in 2011, I made a point to attend one of their late-night showcases. I was really pleased with what I saw and heard and their enthusiasm was also a big factor in our decision to sign them to Mountain Fever Records. We just couldn’t be happier with their success.”

The Spinney Brothers have spent the first part of 2013 on a U.S. tour that has included a very successful benefit concert for the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro, KY. They’ve just returned from performing on a bluegrass cruise and will continue their tour with shows in Florida and Georgia before returning to their Canadian homes in February. Here are the band’s remaining dates on this U.S. tour:

January 25th – Lake Wales, FL

January 29th – Largo, FL

January 30th – Zephyrhills, FL

January 31st – Sanford, FL

February 1st – Woodbine, GA

February 2nd – Davenport, FL

February 3rd – Bushnell, FL

Prog Rockers FEN Post New Video 'Of Losing Interest'

Vancouver progressive rockers FEN have posted a video for their title track from their fifth and latest album ‘Of Losing Interest’ released last summer via indie label Ripple Music to follow up their fourth release ‘Trails Out Of Gloom’.

“The song ‘Of Losing Interest’ broke new ground for us. We didn’t try to shape it into some convoluted or grandiose structure. We just let the riff be a riff and do its job and we kept the dynamics fairly steady throughout. At one point I considered titling the song, The Grump, based on the fact that the lyrics are from the perspective of someone who detests social interactions and does what he can to either cut them short or avoid them altogether. Overall, the video is a lofi attempt to reveal what might be inside his head.” comments vocalist / guitarist Doug Harrison.

Their heaviest and most technical album to date, ‘Of Losing Interest’ is an album that revisits the band’s harder edged metallic past while retaining the melodic sensibilities that made ‘Trails Out of Gloom’ so alluring. Co-Produced by Mike Southworth, his fourth with the band, ‘Of Losing Interest’ is a contrast of technical virtuosity layered against warm low end organics.

About:

In January of 1998, in the mountain shadows of Nelson, British Columbia, a creatorship emerged called Fen. The road has been long for this dark-leaning band, which after more than a decade of obscurity, was finally ushered into the prog and metal fan’s psyche. This occurred in 2010, when Fen signed to California label Ripple music and released their fourth album Trails Out Of Gloom. The album garnered impressive reviews from bloggers and print magazines worldwide, including mention in the UK’s Classic Rock magazine and a perfect 16/16 score from the US authority on prog: Progressions Magazine. To follow up this attention, in May of 2011, the management of UK/Israeli prog veterans Blackfield invited Fen to open for them on the Vancouver stop of their North American tour.

To date, Fen’s music has sold in more than fifteen countries, and with the help of dedicated bloggers, two AAA-radio campaigns, and a music video for the single “Miracle,” the band’s following continues to expand. In surprising contrast to the dark nature of Fen’s music, their songs have been placed on HGTV (Home and Garden Television) and Animal Planet’s, From Underdog to Wonderdog, among others. The song “Through the Night” will soon be available on the video game RockBand.

Fen has performed at clubs and festivals throughout BC, and in the summer of 2011, took part in the Forest Symphony at UBC’s Pacific Spirit Park. Fen’s fifth album, Of Losing Interest, will be available in August 2012, and is a return to the heavier aspects of the bands sound. It is their second release under the Ripple Music label, and it brings together a band line up first assembled in 1999.

Magic the Gathering: Gatecrash Review

The new expansion for Magic: the Gathering is set to be released on February 1st, and we were given a special sneak peek into the set.
The Gatecrash expansion captures the exploits of five guilds – Boros (Red/White), Dimir (Blue/Black), Gruul (Red/Green), Orzhov (Black/White) and Simic (Blue/Green). Each guild has their own keyword. We were able to test out the Dimir Dementia Intro pack, consisting of blue and black cards focusing on the Dimir guild. This deck focused on the new cipher mechanic, which allows players to cast a spell each time the ciphered creature does combat damage to an opponent. This means that an effect like Whispering Madness (2UB), which forces players to discard their hands and draw cards equal to the largest amount of cards held by a player, could happen four or five times in a game. Boros has battalion, a buff that occurs when more than three creatures attack, while Orzhov has extort, an extra mana cost that pings an opponent for 1 damage and grants the Orzhov player with 1 life. Gruul has a set of combat tricks called Bloodrush that bolsters attacking forces should a mana cost and a discard occur; Simic allows creatures to evolve, or gain +1/+1 counters when a creature with a greater power or toughness enters the battlefield.
Two planeswalkers are present in this expansion – Domri Rade (Red/Green) and Gideon, Champion of Justice (White). Domri Rade allows players to either fight creatures (assign an attacking/blocking pair), stockpile creatures in hand, or get a game-changing emblem that grants double strike, trample, hexproof, and haste. The latest Gideon provides a +1 ability that gives Gideon loyalty counters to the tune of enemy creatures, while his 0 ability turns him into an indestructible soldier that cannot be damaged. The -15 ability exiles all other permanents. Players will be able to go to their local gaming store or department store to purchase packs, intro decks, and fat packs.

ANCIENT VVISDOM's Deathlike

From the dark corners of Austin, Texas, singer/songwriter Nathan Opposition, his brother Michael Jochum (electric guitar) and acoustic guitarist Justin “Ribs” Mason have been annihilating the underground rock scene under the moniker of ANCIENT VVISDOM.

Utilizing unusual instrumentation including a bowed stand-up bass, synths, and machete/bamboo percussion over their acoustic guitars, the band set out to develop an enticing yet macabre sound — which Opposition describes as “the root of rock n’ roll and blues” — on their 2011 debut release “A Godlike Inferno,” which garnered the band a strong cult following. Classic Rock called the album a “dark and brooding beast,” comparing it to “the dirty glam swagger of Ziggy-era Bowie,” while Kerrang! praised its “hypnotic tone and rich soundscapes.”

Determined to spread their infectious sound to the masses, the band took on an opening spot for Ghost’s inaugural U.S. headlining tour in 2012, as well as a performance at the Scion-sponsored Death Comes Ripping showcase at that year’s South By Southwest festival that left concertgoers begging for mercy. Buoyed by nominations for “Best Underground Band” at Metal Hammer’s Golden Gods Awards and for “Best New Band” at Classic Rock’s annual awards, the band then headed overseas, a jaunt that included performances at Norway’s Inferno Festival and the prestigous Roadburn Festival as well as a live broadcast on BBC Radio, where they premiered a new track (the fittingly titled “The Last Man on Earth”).

ANCIENT VVISDOM have been further honing in on their archaic sound ever since, producing a mesmerizing follow-up to “A Godlike Inferno” at Diamond Factory Studios in Austin. Their new album, “Deathlike,” holds true to its moniker, putting the listener into a state of repose.Their only hope lies in Opposition’s vocals — which, combined with the impassioned acoustic instrumentation, leaves listeners at the edge of their seat as they try to comprehend the depth of his haunting lyrics. Once again mixed and mastered by “A Godlike Inferno” engineer/co-producer Jason Buntz, who this time partnered with Enormous Door founder Jack Control (Jet, The Darkness, …Trail Of Dead), “Deathlike”s sound remains true to the band with it’s rich acoustic tones and heavy electric guitars chugging through an apocalyptic world. “Deathlike” will be released by Prosthetic Records on Feb. 5, 2013 in the U.S.

Bartending

There is always a need for individuals that know the array of different alcoholic beverages, and those individuals will be able to get that sort of training through attending Bartending School. Bartending Classes are required to provide all the information that individuals would need in regards to drink composition, trends in bartending, and what to look out for to receive the largest tips. I know that there were a number of radio spots done in the 1990s about bartending school, but the amount of spots that are open to well-trained bartenders have only increased. This means that people have to hold the training that is offered by a Bartending Certification before they could be considered to be a head bartender or other high-end job in the field. Whether one would just be taking on a bartending role in a chain restaurant or at the highest end of establishments, the skills that are provided with bartending school will provide a tremendous amount of benefit. There just are too many bartenders currently out on the market that do not know how to make any sort of drinks and possess incredibly poor form. If they were able to go to bartending school, I believe that they would be much better types of workers. Perhaps an intrepid chain or set of restaurants could pay for their new hires to attend bartending school. This is especially important considering the fact that liquor sales represent a substantial portion of a restaurant’s sales for those that offer the stuff.

Bartending school is perfect for those individuals that are trying to better their life. If they have been stuck with host / hostess positions in their career in restaurants, adding bartending certification will allow them to move up pay grades in the years to come. The information that is presented during bartending school will stay useful no matter how long one is in the serving industry. If you know anyone that would like to achieve a better career than they have now in the service industry, tell them to check out this website. The ability to attend bartending school may just be what an individual needs to change their life around. Have any of you ever been to bartending school? How was it, what were the classes like, and what would you have liked to see during your time in the school. Thanks as always for reading this post.

Swedish House Mafia Announce Support For North American Leg Of Their Massive 'One Last Tour'

Black Tie Rave: New Auction
On Feb. 28th, the Swedes will hold a Black Tie Rave charity event at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The first round of tickets were auctioned off in December and with under a third of the tickets sold, an astonishing $437,000 was raised for the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund in support of hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
Swedish House Mafia have just announced that the second auction will take place on Feb. 1st at 10am EST at www.ticketmaster.com. The new auction will benefit Save The Children, the world’s leading independent organization for children, who will join the national dialogue on gun control, the provision and availability of mental health services, and violence in society in the wake of the school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut on Dec. 14th.  Save The Children’s goal is to use their experience in advocacy, their seven decades of serving poor and vulnerable children in the U.S., and their commitment to children’s protection and rights to inform and influence both the dialogue and the policies that will emerge as the nation addresses issues that have a direct impact on the safety, security and well-being of its citizens—especially children.
Starting bid is $100.00 per ticket and fans can purchase a minimum of 2 tickets and maximum of 4 tickets.  More info available at  www.blacktieraave.com. In addition anyone on the guest list for the U.S. tour will be asked to donate and optional $10.00 at the door for Save The Children.
“During the process of planning the Black Tie Rave, the Newton tragedy happened and we decided that as we had already raised more money than we had hoped for, that we would add Save The Children to the list of charities who will benefit from this event.  Their work helping children who have suffered violence of all kinds is incredible and it felt right to bring them into what fundraising efforts we can achieve through this tour,” said Swedish House Mafia.
It’s also confirmed that Pete Tong will fly in to support Swedish House Mafia at this special event along side Carl Kennedy!
