Eastbound & Down: The Complete Fourth & Final Season DVD Set

Eastbound & Down went out with a bang for its final (fourth) season. The main characters – Kenny, April, and Stevie – have their final hurrah as Jon Reep (Jed Forney), Ken Marino (Guy Young), and Tim Heidecker (Gene) all make their presence felt. At the crux of this season has to be the struggle that Kenny has regarding his past (Major League Baseball), his present (children with April), and the uncertainties that his new family life provides. This season wraps up Kenny’s storyline nicely in the space of 8 episodes. By the end of Chapter 29, it seems as if the future that Kenny could experience will be at least as wild and crazy as his time in the big leagues.

There are a number of extra features here, including a number of expanded scenes and audio commentaries that provide viewers with a better sense of what the creators and actors intended the fourth season to represent as the closing chapter in Kenny’s life. A set of outtakes showcases the sheer amount of fun that was occurring at the Eastbound & Down set, and showcases that the humor present in the show is an expansion of the natural funniness of each of the actors.

The Complete Fourth & Final Season of Eastbound & Down will be available on May 13^th for around $25-30; HBO has also bundled the Blu-Ray versions of each of the season’s episodes. Eastbound & Down was a series that never hit a sour note – if you like raunchy comedy with a twist of the humane, the show will placate you nicely.

Juan Wauters Tour Starts Next Week Including Dates with Crystal Stilts

So far this year Juan Wauters released his debut solo album, N.A.P. North American Poetry, and joined labelmate Mac DeMarco for his North American tour, excluding the west coast dates. Up next for the charismatic musician, more touring! Next Wednesday Wauters plays New Haven, CT before heading out west for a string of dates and will then return to the east coast to play Northside Festival in Brooklyn before joining Crystal Stilts for a run of dates in June.

And just announced today, Juan will join The Julie Ruin, Those Darlins, Speedy Ortiz, Radkey, Viet Cong and Nude Beach at Village Voice’s 4Knots Festival later this summer.

In 2000, Alberto Wauters left Uruguay to live in a basement in Queens. Two years later he called his son, Juan, to join him. Juan Wauters crossed the threshold into manhood when he arrived in New York. Working at a factory, the father and son pooled their money to bring their family to the borough of opportunity. With no friends to speak of, Juan turned to music to take control of the loneliness of his isolation. Juan was inspired by his new neighborhood of Jackson Heights and delighted to find that his library card gave him access to an abundance of new music.

In his debut solo record, N.A.P. North-American Poetry, Wauters dreams big; coming into his own as a singer. Building on his songwriting, popularized by The Beets, Juan presents introspective tracks, like “Water” and “Sanity”, and reflections on humans’ relationship with technology in songs like Breathing—which features Carmelle Safdie. The record is completed, as always, by the artwork of dear friend and longtime collaborator Matthew Volz, who has honed the trademark visual aesthetic of Juan’s music. This album is a selection of recordings made between the fall of 2010 and the summer of 2012 at Marlborough Farms. N.A.P. delivers a fresh sound and lyrical candor from one of Queens’ most idiosyncratic adoptive sons.

Live, Juan shares the stage with a revolving cast of international musicians of the highest caliber: vocalist Carmelle Safdie (Israel), multi-instrumentalist Tall Juan Zaballa (Argentina), percussionist Chie Mori (Japan), and flutist Amanda Rodi (Mexico). Matthew Volz heightens this lively and mood-altering experience with his painted banners, personal objects and manually manipulated light show. The ensemble is not to be missed.

The band just wrapped up a recent North American spring tour with The Wonder Years and are looking forward to a full summer on the Vans Warped Tour 2014.

Usher Releases Good Kisser Single on May 5th

Usher, the eight-time Grammy winner and one of the best-selling musical artists in history, will be releasing the first single from his forthcoming album due out this fall entitled “Good Kisser,” available at iTunes, Amazon and all digital providers on Monday, May 5th. #goodkisser.

“Good Kisser” was co-written by Usher with Andrew “Pop” Wansel, Ronald “Flip” Colson, Jameel Roberts, Terry “Tru” Sneed, Warren “Oak” Felder, and produced by Pop, Flip, JProof, Terry “Tru” Sneed, Natural and Oak.

In a message on My Fictions’ Tumblr page, the band says, “This album has been in the works for a minute – we started writing this stuff at the end of 2012. We finished writing it at the beginning of 2014. Most everything we did with this record, we did in-house. We tried to make the album as insular as possible, so what you’re getting on this record is just us.”

Will Killingsworth mastered the record at Dead Air Studios.

Cut from the same cloth of today’s most influential hardcore, My Fictions are a force to be reckoned with. They are unapologetically heavy. Deliberately tense. Manically varied. Though their influences number among acts like Pg. 99, Converge and American Nightmare, the family My Fictions has been born into is one that is revolutionizing the genre today. Since forming in Massachusetts’ Merrimack Valley in 2010, the band has shared stages with Circle Takes The Square, Loma Prieta , The Saddest Landscape and many others.

My Fictions will be performing the new songs at a show with Lovechild, Mountain Man, Itto and Moonraker in Cambridge, MA on May 20 at TT The Bear’s Place.

The band’s most recent release was a collaborative split with label mates The Saddest Landscape.

NIGHTMARES ON WAX UNVEILS FULL TRACKLIST FOR N.O.W. IS THE TIME

Warp Records is proud to announce the release of a best-of compilation of electronic music pioneer Nightmares on Wax (George Evelyn) titled N.O.W. Is The Time, due June 17, 2014. Nightmares on Wax, one of Warp Records’ initial signings, is releasing the compilation in celebration of his 25-year career, which falls in tandem with Warp’s own 25th anniversary.

The tracklist has been slowly unveiled via various streaming services and is now revealed in full through both the Bleep and iTunes pre-orders. Full tracklisting is also available below.

In addition to N.O.W. Is The Time, a 2-disc release comprised of the greatest hits, NOW will also release a special edition vinyl box set Deep Down: Remixes & Raritites, which features unreleased material, new and classic remixes (by Ashley Beedle, LFO, Loco Dice and more), and a book of memorabilia and interviews. Deep Down is also available for pre-order via iTunes. In conjunction with the announcement of the compilation, the “NOW Is The Time (Ashley Beedle Warbox Dubplate Special)” remix from the box set is now available for stream and embed HERE.

To ring in the release and the quarter-centennial celebration, Nightmares on Wax will head out on his largest US tour ever beginning in Seattle, WA at Neumos on June 18 and ending in Miami, FL at Grand Central on July 21. Current Nightmares on Wax US tour dates are below.

The Nightmares on Wax story is one that spans decades and genres. Nightmares on Wax came up in the 80s UK B-Boy and graffiti scene enamored with New York hip-hop and was an innovator in merging those sounds and feelings with the popular sounds of the UK at that time to pioneer what became dubbed “trip-hop.” Releasing classic albums such as Smoker’s Delight and Carboot Soul and working with the likes of De La Soul and Roots Manuva established NOW as one of the definitive purveyors of hip-hop, funk, dub and soul.

25 years on, his fanbase is still growing. His recent Boiler Room DJ set has over half a million views, and he also recently appeared on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Electric performing “I Am You.” After his successful US tour following the release of his most recent record Feelin’ Good, he is about to embark on his largest US tour to date.
