Paul Basic's Transient Horizons LP Available For Free

Following his sophomore album release, Transient Horizons earlier this month, Pretty Lights Music artist Paul Basic is geared up for a busy holiday season which includes a live performance on Beatport’s Ustream this Friday December 20th, along with joining the Pretty Lights-led Illumination Arena for the 3rd annual Decadence in Denver, Colorado on December 31st. To celebrate New Year’s Eve, Paul Basic joins label mates Supervision, and Break Science during the two day event along with headliners Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, Dada Life, Above & Beyond and Tiësto.

Starting out as a drummer, Colorado producer Paul Brandt AKA Paul Basic joined a band with Derek Vincent Smith (Pretty Lights) and Michal Menert in high school before they each moved on to pursue solo production work. In fall 2011 Paul released his debut EP, The Mirror on Pretty Lights Music which featured a gritty, nostalgic sound blending dusty samples, grainy synths, biting bass and thick drums – a combination that earned him an integral place within the PLM movement. This year Paul’s follow-up LP takes on a more refined delivery of his dark, heavy beats and shows a unique range of mood and musicality. Transient Horizons features 11 tracks and includes collaborations with Pretty Lights, Michal Menert, and Trophy Beats.

Paul states, “This album is grown from two years exploring a sound that best describes where my head and heart find both peace and struggle. It’s about the places we strive to reach and the paths we end up on as we pursue their elusive, transient meanings. To me, it depicts finding light and direction in otherwise dark, foreboding or unfamiliar places. These songs came from a personal place but I hope they go on to make new connections with anyone drawn to their sound.”

“Paul Basic has stepped his shit up. His new full length, ‘Transient Horizons’, shows Paul Basic evolving as a producer in 2 huge ways. He worked unceasingly at crafting his own unique style in a genre where imitation is everywhere. His skills as a sound designer and audio engineer have developed greatly. I was so excited about Paul Basics’ new album that I asked him if we could collaborate on a track together… something I haven’t done in a long time. It was a great experience and I love the song we created, “Reach Higher”.  It’s a banger with with hot shit flavor, and a vocal part that lifts you off your feet and puts sunshine in your ears. This record is super hard hitting and the bass work is huge while staying tasteful. He fills the void of silence with a spectrum of sounds that go from chest numbing bass to sparkling arpeggiators that tickle the ear. In between he laces his banging drum beats with organic samples and intriguingly pleasant synth sounds and melodies. Nice job Paul Basic!” - Derek Vincent Smith (Pretty Lights)

In addition to the album, Paul remixed Pretty Lights’ “Color Of My Soul” – one of the tracks off Pretty Lights’ Grammy-nominated album, A Color Map of the Sun.
