It’s been a very busy and dynamic start to 2013 for latin indie rock band HolySexyBastards. They were recently awarded the most prestigious title for a band in Vene uela as the recent winners of the New Bands’ Festival for 2012. They are currently nominated for “Breakthrough Artist” and “Best Rock Album” at Pepsi Music Awards 2013 being held in Caracas on March 14. They are leaving their hometown of Valencia in the wake of their President Hugo Chave ’s passing to make their US debut at SXSW 2013. They will play a string of shows in Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, Jackson, Cape Coral and Miami following the festival before returning to Vene uela to complete their much anticipated sophomore album.
“Every human deserves respect just for being a creature of this planet. There’s no place for mockery or ridicule, there’s only place for solidarity to the president’s family. What we need now is willingness to grow as citi ens in a country with deep social difficulties,” comments HolySexyBastards front man/guitarist Andres Puche on Chave ’s passing.
HolySexyBastards’ acclaimed debut self-titled album “shines a light” and gives hope to many amidst the current political and social landscape in their country. HolySexyBastards literally ignited a garage rock movement in music being made in Vene uela in the past year. There are more and more indie rock bands coming on to the scene now in Vene uela than ever before thanks to the visionary pathway carved out by Puche, bassist Luis Henríque and drummer It a Loprieno.
HolySexyBastards features fourteen short songs with mouthfuls of punk, hard rock, stoner rock, blues and bad attitudes to spare – all in English – despite the fact that the band’s native language is Spanish. That’s because HolySexyBastards’ aim is to take their music to the international market. They’re on their way now with their show at the Jr. being previewed as a “must see for SXSW” in the Austin Chronicle’s upcoming SXSW issue.
