Life can move so fast that it’s hard to stop and appreciate those that populate our surroundings. Described by FACT Mag as “a smooth-as-hell groover that explores stereotypes and assumptions,” “Good People” is the latest music video from rising Bay area rapper, A-1. “Good People” is a unique visual experience filmed on a phantom camera at 1400fps. The special effect created by this technique shows people standing in a frozen state as the camera continuously moves from the sunny streets of San Francisco to the bustling energy of Oakland bus stops. The video is the latest offering from A-1’s upcoming album Thurlian, releasing March 5, 2015.
The basis for the visual is A-1 demonstrating “that “Good People” come in all forms. Size, shape, color, ethnicity, age, background, religion, gender, none of these things constitute what makes someone a good person. We wanted the viewer to connect the image of a good person regardless of their look.” What separates the video from your typical hip-hop visual is the fact that A-1 avoids being the center-of-attention. Instead, A-1 uses his artistic outlet to showcase how special life’s surroundings can be. A-1 states,”I’d prefer to stay out of the music videos altogether and just let the art speak for itself. Plus this song especially isn’t about me, I don’t reference myself in the song at all, so it would only make sense to leave me out of it.”
Accompanied by BEAR//FACE’s haunting How To Dress Well sampling instrumental, the video shines a light on the diversity of A-1’s home. A-1’s upcoming album Thurlian features collaborations from some of music’s most genre-bending producers, including Mikos Da Gawd, Woostaar, Mr. Carmack, Sango, Kaytanada, XXYYXX, Ryan Hemsworth, Stwo, and BEAR//FACE. Thurlian is set to be released on March 5, 2015.
