Jumpship Astronaut Humans CD Review

Jumpship Astronaut is able to create in Alive a track that will work perfectly on pop rotation, but possesses enough depth to be eagerly devoured by EDM fans. There is a shuffling dance groove that Jumpship Astronaut inserts into this introductory salvo that ensures listeners will stick with the band from the beginning to the end of Humans.a3681884150_10

Too Much Thought is a richly emotive track that builds off of the work of late Blink-182 and Good Charlotte, with hints of The Used and From First To Last. There is a clarity that is present during this track and a bouncy breakdown that establishes this track as wholly unique and destined for jukebox play. Jeane is another strong effort on Humans; the gradual speeding up of the track and the overall sound achieved by the band (blending up equal parts Chromeo, Daft Punk, and Walk The Moon) represents another single for Jumpship Astronaut. The EP concludes with Our Best Days, a track that benefits considerably from a further stylistic shift. There is an early eighties sound (Depeche Mode, Psychedelic Furs) sound that is brought to the current era; the sultry vocals presented here mesh perfectly with the sweeping instrumentation. Jumpship Astronaut are able to provide fans with six distinct facets of the band’s eclectic personality, all while creating something that is unified and cohesive as a work.

The band’s Bandcamp is the best place to purchase their music and listen to the tracks that comprise Humans. Here’s to hoping that this Oklahoma City band is able to create a full-length that expands upon the styles and approaches that they have taken on this EP.

Top Tracks: Too Much Thought, Our Best Days
