How to Eat Clean and Healthy on a Budget

Healthy living is something we should all aspire to, but unfortunately a lot of us don’t live healthy lives at all. Millions of people are affected by long-term health problems, many of which could have been prevented by eating a healthy diet and taking regular exercise. There is even evidence to suggest that clean eating, or eating only fresh, organic food, can lower our chances of developing cancer. But what happens if you are restricted by a small budget and can’t afford to buy expensive organic fruit and veggies from the local store?

Celebrities are very lucky. Apart from the fact they are blessed with a huge income and can therefore afford to eat whatever they like, most of them also enjoy the services of a personal chef who prepares balanced meals and takes care of the time consuming stuff (like sourcing fresh ingredients from many different locations and looking out for voucher codes). The rest of us have to make do with the local supermarkets. However, you don’t need a personal chef and an unlimited grocery budget to eat healthy – and here’s why.

Grow Your Own Veggies

Growing fruit and vegetables is not as hard as you might think and once you have a vegetable plot established, you can enjoy fresh, seasonal vegetables, all year round. There are plenty of ‘how-to’ videos online if you don’t have a clue about growing food – check them out or borrow a book from the local library to give you a few hints and tips. All you need is some land and a bit of time to dig and sow. And if you don’t have any garden, grow smaller vegetables such as tomatoes, green beans, etc., in pots and containers.

Shop at Farmer’s Markets

Farmer’s markets are great places to shop for fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy produce. Food bought from big stores is often less than fresh, whereas food at Farmer’s markets could quite easily have been harvested the previous day. Buying direct from the supplier means you know where your food comes from and cutting out the middleman (i.e. the supermarket) will save you a lot of money.

Shop Daily

If you can shop daily, it is possible to save lots of money on fresh food. Most big supermarkets discount fresh produce nearing the end of its use-by date at the end of the day, so if you are there at the right time, you can easily pick up some bargains. Alternatively, shop online using Ocado voucher codes and look out for the daily deals.

Shop Smart

Shopping smart is all about making use of what is in season, and therefore cheaper. Don’t go shopping with a fixed list of ingredients in mind. Instead, look at what’s on offer or make use of your Ocado voucher codes at couporando.co.uk and save some cash.

By following the tips above, you can save money on your weekly grocery bill and end up eating a lot more healthily at the same time, so why not give it a try today!
