13 Sins Blu-Ray

13 Sins is a stellar film that utilizes the talents of Tom Bower (Die Hard 2, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Kid Cannabis), Rutina Wesley (True Blood) and Mark Webber (Happy Christmas). Elliot Brindle (Webber) is a down on his luck salesman that is asked to take part in a game show. This game show pushes Brindle to do increasingly evil activities (killing a fly, burns down a church, takes off a bully’s hand, runs razor wire across the street).

The film builds upon the premise of the Saw franchise and spins it in a bold and interesting fashion. The title has the legs to have a sequel, especially considering that the forces behind the game are not given a full fleshing out – one could create different challenges in different cities and keep things interesting through four or five films.

The lossless audio quality of 13 Sins is spectacular, ensuring that listeners will be able to discern each utterance and bit of dialogue. The audio side of things is bolstered through a rich and vibrant video print, which ensures realism in skin tones and buildings while maintaining a vibrancy to really showcase the larger than life style of the film.

There are a number of featurettes that are present on this release. The alternate ending provides a substantial change to the previous events in 13 Sins, while a deleted sequence (which runs about 6 minutes in length) provides some nice explication about the plot. An all too brief (3 minute) clip showcases the sometimes tense atmosphere during the creation of 13 Sins. 13 Sins can be purchased on Blu-Ray for about $15-20; it should be available at well stocked video stores.
