Ristorante Paradiso is a great addition to the collection of any anime fans that are looking for a slightly different tenor to their show. The show focuses on Nicoletta, a child that was left so that eir mom Olga could marry without any sort of additional familial ties. After finding out about Olga’s restaurant in Rome, Nicoletta makes the journey. What originally was a mission of anger changes into something completely different as Nicoletta falls into the same traps and pitfalls that eir mom has. The show completes in 11 episodes, but the characters have tremendous development as the show continues to keep viewers involved. The original manga of Ristorante Paradiso was written by Natsume Ono of Not Simple and House of Five Leaves; the show is given its unique art direction by the skilled hand of David Production (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Ben-To).
The DVD comes with a number of additional features. This means that there are version of the beginning and ending of the show without subtitles, commercials for the show, and a guide to the various places that Nicoletta and Olga go to while in Rome. Right Stuf has released this title as a complete collection; intrepid purchasers can likely find a copy of the DVD for around $35 new. Check out the Right Stuf website for more information regarding their slate of products for the rest of 2013 and new shows that they contract to release. This is the definitive vision of Ristorante Paradiso and should be purchased by anyone that is a fan of Josei manga or something that is separate from the typical fare on during Saturday morning.
