The Strap-Ons Geeking Dream CD Review
These guys are a 5 piece band from Norfolk, VA. They began 1996 out as the Pimps, are no strangers to a microphones, as they have released 3 7 inches, I EP, and 1 full length album. To add to this, they also have toured nationwide. I love bands that actually include lyrics sheets, and this album was made in 2000, has twenty five songs, and is on the World Label cooperative. These songs clock in at just under 41 minutes, averaging out to about 1:36 per song, and their longest song is 2:47, shortest :39. All of the songs on the disc contain some very funny shit, from “Wetty Beddy” to “Jon Benet”. “Crusin for Creation” starts off with a simply brilliant bass line, played by Collin Contes, who also lays out a fucking great line on “Dying Nation”, the song following. The Strap-Ons have a lot of the old punk spirit, even being serious when it benefits them (“K-9 Christ”, “Anarchy Life”). Some of the tracks on “Geeking Dream” are so much in the old spirit that one forgets that all of these songs are no old then 3 years old. The sound of this band is towards Fear and the Assmen. ‘This place sucks” has an excellent guitar solo that is unfortunately muffled by the recording of the song which ends with an excellent drum solo. “Drugs sex violence” starts off with a wicked guitar line, which leads to the excellent sound chorus of “Drugs, sex, and violence.” Collin comes back with another great bass line in “Flipping”. ”Flipping” also has the lead singer, Brian Diederich, adopts a very Jello Biafraish vocal style. Brian’s vocal style changes a small bit for “Fist Fuckers”, going into a more Sex Pistols style. This band is the only one in a long time that included a lyrics sheet without needing it at all, as Brian’s voice for the most part. This band must have a substantial following, as they had Joey Image, drummer for the Misfits during the best ear of their existence 1977-1980. They also got a van from Yip Records (Lancaster, PA). The main thing tying this whole CD together would be all the religious comments ,which I would like to know the story behind. One of the record label on the back of the CD has a cross, and the crown of thorns with it. Rating 7.3/10The Strap-Ons Geeking Dream CD Review The Strap-Ons Geeking Dream CD Review
