Doty and his bandmate, vocalist Phil Stancil, will hit the road to play out tunes from both albums in November when Midnight Faces supports new Secretly Canadian – Last Gang signings Electric Youth on that band’s North American tour. See below for complete itinerary.
Barely into his teens, Matt Doty began making music with childhood friend Jonny Pierce (of The Drums), resulting in a full-length album released by Columbia Records. At age twenty, he went on to co-found post-rock instrumental giants Saxon Shore with Josh Tillman (aka Father John Misty), releasing three EPs, and two albums produced by Dave Fridmann (MGMT, Tame Impala, Flaming Lips.)
“I had been writing new music during Saxon Shore’s hiatus, with no idea as to where the songs would end up,” Doty says of the beginnings of Midnight Faces. “Towards the end of 2012, I asked Phil to take a shot at adding vocals to a couple of the tunes and that’s when things started to fall into place.”
“To better understand what The Fire Is Gone is, please understand what it isn’t,” Doty explains of the new Midnight Faces album. “No fancy producers, no big name special guests, no one wearing robot costumes, no all-analog studio, and no songs recorded live to tape. We made this album by ourselves and for ourselves. We made it in my apartment on a computer one track at a time.”
Memoryy's Young Oblivion EP Out Today
Memoryy is the alias of Brooklyn-based Shaun Hettinger. Seamlessly bringing together ‘80s-inspired synths with elements of modern production, his synth-pop lives in a distinct realm between the past & present. TV ON THE RADIO RELEASE VIDEO FOR "HAPPY IDIOT"
TV On the Radio release the video for “Happy Idiot” with an unexpected starring role by Paul Reubens as ‘Racer Steven.’ Like the best of Saturday morning and Saturday night rolled into one, TVONTHERADIOSCOPE presents a mind-bending visual to the first single from the bands upcoming album, Seeds, out November 18 on Harvest Records.
Keep up with the new video by watching “Happy Idiot” HERE.
Seeds is available for pre-order here, including an instant free download of “Happy Idiot.”
“I had this idea for the video that I thought would never happen, of Paul Reubens as a race car driver who slowly loses his mind,” says singer Tunde Adebimpe. ” I took it to Funny or Die and they said, ‘That’s great, let’s go for that.'”
“I got to speak with him over the phone about doing it and, in between being blindingly nervous that I was actually talking to an actor who had shaped a LOT of my world view and trying not to freak him out by saying so, he mentioned that he’s been a fan of the band for awhile,” Adebimpe says. “He liked the idea, and, somehow, here we are with Paul as a race car driver losing his mind.”
Directed by Danny Jelinek and written by Jake Fogelnest, “Happy Idiot” features Reubens and Karen Sheila Gillan, a Scottish actress best known for her role as Amy Pond in the BBC series Doctor Who and Nebula in the current Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy. Paul Reubens is best known for creating the genius and Emmy Award-winning Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, featuring himself as Pee-Wee Herman.
“Karen Gillan was absolutely great. We were really psyched to work with her, because she’s basically sci-fi royalty, and a great person,” says Adebimpe. “Full on geek fest in the desert.”
Calling “Happy Idiot their best song in years, Slate raves the song is a “high-energy track that has TV on the Radio sounding sharper than ever” while Billboard says “If the rest of Seeds follows suit, they’ll have one killer of an album.” NME named the single Track of the Week, and Zane Lowe at the BBC states they are “sounding as eclectic and hungry as ever! Just sounding brilliant.”
“It was really fun to do, love how it came out,” says Adebimpe. “I think our fans will like it. I hope so. The cool ones will anyway. The rest can suck it. I don’t exactly know what ‘it’ is. But they can find it. And they can suck it.”
Seeds was recorded at Federal Prism in Los Angeles and produced by guitarist David Andrew Sitek. Seeds will be TV on the Radio’s fifth studio album and first since Nine Types Of Light, which was released in 2011.
PRAISE FOR “HAPPY IDIOT”
“A skittery, new-wavey beat and nimbly clanging guitar line provide a soundtrack for lyrics about enjoying simplicity, but its theme is “ignorance is bliss.” Rolling Stone
“‘Happy Idiot’ is the poppiest, most direct thing they’ve ever done – a sublime start to a new chapter.” NME
“Through triumph and tragedy TV On The Radio remain one of the most influential and compelling American rock and roll stories of the modern age. TV On The Radio – Happy Idiot Sounding as electric and hungry as ever! Just sounding brilliant!” BBC
“After a decade-plus of being called an indie rock band without ever really sounding like one, avant-rockers TV on the Radio have released “Happy Idiot,” a track that emphasizes clean-toned guitar and accessible pop hooks over the atmosphere and electronic textures the rest of their discography’s been built on.” Entertainment Weekly
“‘Happy Idiot’ is a frenetic, fast-paced number that echoes the energetic moments of 2006’s “Return to Cookie Mountain.” Wall Street Journal

Alvin Harrison, The 99 EP Review
Rough Times in America is a soulful track that resounds loudly even after the track ceases. A smart production allows each constituent element of the track to shine, meaning that the bass, drums, and multiple vocals are provided with ample opportunity to shine separately and as a contributing element. The track is a call to action, building off of the work of artists like Phil Ochs and USA For Africa. The track’s melodies and vocals will tattoo themselves deep into the minds and hearts of anyone listening in, a quality that is equally present in We Ain’t Buyin’ and Do You Wanna Go.
We Ain’t Buyin’ has a two-part vocal harmony that expands upon the gospel style while putting forth a very pop friendly sound. The on-point percussive elements highlight these vocals and provide a very insistent and driving beat to the composition. Do You Wanna Go has a considerably different style than Rough Times in America, changing the pop elements for a much more rough-hewn and guitar laden style. The grit of the vocals are a perfect counterpoint to the electronic elements, making for a very complex and intricate composition. Listeners will need to listen to the cut a number of times to hear every twist and turn that Harrison has placed into this composition. Make sure to check out the Rough Times in America Facebook for the latest news and information about this act. For music with a message, Alvin Harrison / The 99 creates some of the best hard-nose and unrepentant protest music that we have had the chance to review this year.

DEEP IN HATE Premiere "The Cattle Procession" Video
The lyrics video will plunge you into the concept behind the album: a dark future that sees our so-called civilization evolve into (even) more tyranny, more oppression. So, after entering the “New Republic” and facing the “Altars of Lies,” enter “The Cattle Procession!”

Far East Movement and Les Twins debut Bang It To The Curb video
Far East Movement treat fans to a freestyle video for their song collaboration with Sidney Samson “Bang It To The Curb” prior to their upcoming KTown Riot EP release on Cherrytree Records (October 28). The video directed by Jay Ahn of Transparent Agency stars Parisian hip-hop dancers Les Twins, who are internationally known for starring in Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour by Cirque du Soleil and are currently performing with Beyonce and Jay-Z’s On The Run Tour.
The Les Twins featured video is set during a late night security detail of a haunted building. During a solo patrol, a security officer jams out to “Bang It To the Curb” and awakens a ghost who cannot resist the club banger. The light-hearted video features Les Twins’ signature hip hop new style choreography along with Far East Movement and Sidney Samson’s comedic influences.
“We had just wrapped up the video for “Bang It To The Curb” when we saw this incredible crew called Les Twins on YouTube dancing all over the world to our song,” explains Kev Nish. “We were blown away with their performance on the MTV VMA’s with Beyonce. Since the video was already done, we said shit, let’s just do another video and feature them.”
“Bang It To The Curb” with Sidney Samson follows the KTown Riot EP song releases “Grimey Thirsty” featuring YG that flooded blogs last week and their summer banger “The Illest” featuring Riff Raff. The official video for “Bang It To The Curb” will be released along with the KTown Riot EP.
Far East Movement will conclude their sold-out headlining Australian and New Zealand Rager Nation Tour this Friday, September 26th in Melbourne, Australia.

NEIL YOUNG RELEASES NEW SONG "WHO'S GONNA STAND UP?"
The new song is featured on Young’s upcoming album, STOREYTONE, which will be released this November. Details to be revealed soon. The song was originally performed at a Crazy Horse shows U.K. this summer and more recently part of Young’s solo acoustic set at Farm Aid this past Sept 13th, at Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh North Carolina. The audience did indeed stand up and sing along in unison in support of the song’s plea to end our dependence of fossil fuels and realize our responsibility to protect our earth’s fragile eco systems to ensure the quality of life for future generations.
To learn more visit: www.neilyoung.com/news/
Young also recorded the track backed by a 92-piece symphony and choir. Live, orchestral and solo acoustic versions of “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?” are all available via NeilYoung.com. Young encourages you to post and share “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?” now. Three versions to choose from:

Solo Acoustic version:

“I’d like to make a record with a full-blown orchestra, live — a mono recording with one mic. I want to do something like that where we really record what happened, with one point of view and the musicians moved closer and farther away, the way it was done in the past. To me that’s a challenge and it’s a sound that’s unbelievable, and you can’t get it any other way,” Neil told Billboard in March.
SLUG announce debut single and live dates

CORPSE GARDEN Release New Single "Suspended Over the Abyss"
CORPSE GARDEN have released new single “Suspended Over the Abyss” for purchase digitally on i-Tunes, Spotify, Amazon, and other digital retailers.
The new single is representative of the band’s old school, technical Death Metal sound combined with progressive passages, killer solos and dense atmospheres.”Suspended over the Abyss” reflects the band’s new direction, due in part to lineup changes and musical growth since guitarist Esteban Sancho, bassist Carlos Venegas and vocalist Felipe Tencio joined the band. Ecdysis was crafted from December 2013 to May 2014 in Bushido Audio Productions in Costa Rica; it was recorded, produced and mixed by Juan Pablo Calvo. Album artwork was created by Alexander L. Brown of BNB Illustration and Design based on the concept provided by the band.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDTaNdomzAU
According to the band: “Ecdysis means the shedding or molting of an outer layer of skin particularly on snakes, it means transformation for us. We shed our skin and changed our approach to music in every aspect and this is what we wanted the album’s cover and title to reflect that. The concept is based on the steps of Solve Et Coagula, the alchemical process; making reference to Carl Jung’ studies of the collective unconscious, psychology and alchemy. This conceptual piece is crafted to capture the journey through all the stages and emotions finding the underlying patterns of order in darkness and nature of the psyche.”
CORPSE GARDEN is a death metal act hailing from Heredia, Costa Rica. It was formed in early 2008 due to the dissolution of a gore/grind band. In 2009, they recorded a demo and in 2011 they hit the studio for the second time to record their debut album Burnt by the Light in Bushido Audio Productions with Producer Juan Pablo Calvo. The album was mastered by Jens Bogren at the Fascination Street Studios in Sweden where bands like Opeth, Katatonia, Bloodbath, Amon Amarth, recorded. Burnt by the Light was released in January 2012.
CORPSE GARDEN entered the Wacken Metal Battle Central America, competing against nearly 90 bands from all over the region. On March 31, 2012 CORPSE GARDEN became the first Costa Rican band to win this battle and to play in the official worldwide Wacken Metal Battle on August 1, 2012.
CORPSE GARDENhas shared stage with Disgorge (Mex), Morbid Angel (USA), Malevolent Creation (USA), Mnemic (Den) and Behemoth (Pol) as well as touring in Central America and Europe.
Haken launch 'Darkest Light' video
The band had this to say: ‘‘Darkest Light’ was our first chance to work creatively with our new bass player Conner Green. It was a natural fit right from the start as not only did he bring with him some insanely cool bass playing, but also a great positive energy that made the whole Restoration EP incredibly fun to make.’
Ray adds: ”Darkest Light’ is based on ‘Blind’, one of our favourite tracks from the original 07/08 demo. We’ve managed to chop the old song in half, cut away all the excess fat and produce a 6 minute rowdy riff roller-coaster that will surely find a home in the heavier side of our live show.’
‘Restoration’ is comprised of three reworked and updated songs which originally appeared on their 2007/08 self-produced demo, and the release has been mixed & mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios. It will be released as a digital download, and a vinyl LP including CD.
Vocalist Ross Jennings explains: ‘Redoing a few of our favourite tracks from the demo is something we’ve talked about doing for ages and the fans have been asking for it constantly. We were also excited about working creatively with our new bassist Conner Green, so this seemed like the perfect way to welcome him aboard.’
Guitarist Charlie Griffiths continues: ‘merely re-recording the demo songs would have felt musically redundant and dishonest, since three of us didn’t play on the original recordings. The band’s sound has evolved considerably in the last few years so we used the demo tracks as a starting point and gave ourselves free reign to reimagine them and make them relevant to who we are today. These are now the definitive versions and we couldn’t be happier with how they turned out’.
The track list and playing times are as follows:
1. Darkest Light (6:44)
2. Earthlings (7:52)
3. Crystallised (19:23)
The final track is a no holds barred epic including guest ‘cameo’ appearances by Pete Rinaldi (Headspace) and Mike Portnoy (Transatlantic / Flying Colors).
The vinyl with CD is now available to pre-order from the following places:

Mazes share new video for "Salford"
Remember that ace Eagulls video with the slowly decomposing pigs head? Well, Sam Alder- the director- has turned his hands to the stand out track on Mazes’ new record, ‘Salford’. No rotting bodies tho, this one is tripped out boozing in a North West pub rocking out to heavy metal and smashing pints.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_p5ql25ad4
Sam on making the vid…
“We wanted the video to represent Salford in a way that wasn’t cliched and tired and we loved the idea of filming a proper local pub band that our mates dad plays in, so the plan was to head down and film the lovely locals having a party. However, at the shoot the vibe turned sour when we were filming the drinkers at the pub who weren’t really into it. We literally had to sneak away towards the end of the night to avoid getting a Salfordian telling off – seriously, one guy was making a karate chop gestures at us.
So by way of post-production therapy we superimposed our own mouths over those of the pub revellers. After all you can’t beat a pub rocker saying a line like “I am an honorary mention”.
I’m sure they’ll be no repercussions from this. “

The Voodoo Fix, announce the release of their new EP "Step Right Up,"
Los Angeles’ acclaimed rock outfit, The Voodoo Fix, announce the release of their new EP, “Step Right Up,” available now. Having achieved national buzz through relentless touring and recording in Nashville, “Step Right Up” represents the band’s most creative and engaging release yet. Without abandoning their blues-rock roots, the album’s diverse sound recalls the rock and hip-hop soul of The Black Keys, Gary Clark Jr., and The Roots while showcasing a unique sound of their own.
Originating in Los Angeles and anchored by a steady rhythm section that includes Louis Armstrong’s great grandson, The Voodoo Fix has become a mainstay rock band at festivals throughout the U.S after sharing the stage with blues icons Buddy Guy and Johnny Winter. The Voodoo Fix will be embarking on a U.S. Fall tour in support of the record.

“Step Right Up” features a collection of six original songs flowing with soulful vocals, howling guitars, heavy grooves, and subject matter that reflects on heartbreak, financial hardship, and the band’s experiences on the road. The struggles of everyday life appear in songs like “Save Me” and “Rock Bottom,” while the internal battle with one’s ego takes its course on the hard-charging single “Hard to Change.” “The Curse” is a heartbroken lament disguised in the form of an anthemic party song and the band shows their sly sense of humor with the slinky funk of “Chocolate.”
“Step Right Up” is available exclusively through The Voodoo Fix’s website here. A CD and press kit are available on request.
“Step Right Up” Track Listing:

2. Save Me
3. Chocolate
