Following its hugely successful debut last April, IMS Engage returns to Los Angeles on April 16 in partnership with W Hotels Worldwide.
At its inaugural event IMS Engage hosted over 250 delegates from across the world, who came to see six unmoderated conversations that paired thought leaders from the financial, technology, music and media industries, to address the growing influence and prominence of electronic music in America and the globe.
Just two weeks ago the New York Times ran an article headlined “Drug Deaths Threaten Rising Business of Electronic Music Fests”, the stakes for EDM are higher than ever, and the forthcoming I.P.O. from SFX, only heightens the industry’s visibility. These are heady times for dance music, which means the goal of IMS Engage, providing a forum where the industry’s issues can be debated intelligently, is more crucial than ever.
Seeking to engage a broader dialogue between EDM and other industries, IMS Engage 2013 was opened by an introduction from Billboard’s editorial director and self-confessed ‘ex-raver’, Bill Werde, and followed by pairings that included:
Skrillex and Summit Series Founder Jeff Rosenthal
Diplo and Instagram founder Kevin Systrom
Beatport CEO Matthew Addell and futurist philosopher and author, Jaron Lanier
Lady Gaga’s manager Troy Carter and Swedish House Mafia’s manager Amy Thomson
Ultra Music founder Patrick Moxey and hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons
SFX’s Shelly Finkel and IMS co-founder Pete Tong

“The EDM industry in America continues to expand,” said Ben Turner, founder of IMS. “After the success and feedback we received from the debut IMS Engage event it was an easy decision to return to LA and we’re thrilled to deliver another exciting program in 2014. At a time when more and more opportunities are present in dance music, and the industry is subject to ever more scrutiny and external interest, a forum like this that allows us to engage with and learn from people outside the EDM world seems vital.”
Media coverage of IMS Engage included outlets as diverse as Forbes, The Hollywood Reporter and the LA Times. IMS is co-founded by Pete Tong, who recently re-located to Los Angeles.
Over seven years in Ibiza IMS has earned a reputation as the “the TED of music conferences”, featuring conversations and interviews with luminaries such as Hollywood director David Lynch, musical pioneers Giorgio Moroder and Nile Rodgers, tech innovators from Twitter, Soundcloud, Google, Disney and Electronic Arts, plus DJs including David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Luciano, Sasha, Richie Hawtin, Danny Tenaglia and more. In 2013 IMS hosted its seventh sold out event in Ibiza, and launched its first US event, IMS Engage.
