Funky Bouriel has a funk meets New Jack Swing flair that immediately draws listeners in; Madame Freak’s vocals pull double duty in the furtherance of the narrative and in the creation of the overall flair of this track. Ow!!! brings Follow The Crack into a bold new direction; a small amount of scat-like singing opens up into an eclectic mélange of early-nineties dance and Chic-like pop. Ride It straddles the line between pop and full-on EDM. Madame Freak’s vocals touch upon Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Sia; the track is able to take on older dance styles (disco and Latin) while creating a high-energy anthem. Decidedly vocal-heavy, Ride It is a track that will tattoo itself upon listeners’ minds long after it ceases. The Last Waltz looks further back in the collective consciousness to the early years of the twentieth century, building off of the timeless dance to create something that fans of swingstep and The Dresden Dolls can appreciate. This late-album track showcases Madame Freak’s amazing vocal range, while the on-point arrangements of the rest of the band make this into one of Follow The Crack’s best efforts. Brand New Love is the ultimate track on Follow The Crack, and it acts as a microcosm for all the twists and turns that were presented on the CD. Eminently listenable, this cut closes the CD in a perfect way.
