Adrian Thaws is Tricky’s second release on his own False Idols label via !K7, hard on the heels of his 2013 album, also called False Idols. One thing that makes Adrian Thaws such a gripping, commanding album is the prominence of Tricky’s own vocals but, as always, he’s brought company. Returning from False Idols is Irish-Italian singer Francesca Belmonte, who sings on “Lonnie Listen”, “Something in the Way”, “I Had a Dream” and new single “Nicotine Love” – Tricky’s first full-blown house track. “Fran can take an influence and make it her own,” Tricky says approvingly. German-Nigerian singer Nneka, who also sang on False Idols, reappears on the smoky hip hop blues of “Keep Me in Your Shake”. “She’s really easy to work with,” he says. “I wish she was more well known. We need more women like that.”

Hotel St. Regis Review
The Hotel St. Regis is a storied hotel in downtown Detroit. The hotel has hosted a number of storied musicians, politicians, and other important persons, and it still cuts a mean figure on West Grand Boulevard. The rooms have a classic dignity to them while providing blazing-fast internet and a solid swath of cable channels. The hotel contains La Musique, a restaurant that provides their own unique take on classic American and continental cuisine. Chef Mike ensures that the widest amount of visitors will be able to find something amazing on his menu without compromising his vision for the restaurant.
The hotel is centrally located no matter when individuals want to go to a Detroit casino, museum, Cobo Arena, Lions or Tigers game, or have a convention or other meeting in the area. The hotel is a short distance away from Ypsilanti and Flint for those visitors that wish to get a better sense of southern Michigan.
The valet parking was a nice touch, ensuring that an individual had their car within 5 minutes of calling downstairs; for those individuals that lose their ticket, the valets will take steps above and beyond to ensure that the vehicle is brought out in short order. Overall, the Hotel St. Regis is a great value for family or business travel. The hotel’s friendly service and plush roms will provide a great beginning or end to a Detroit or southern Michigan visit. A room will cost around $135-150 for one night when one calculates taxes.

Movement Detroit 2014 Concert Review
The festival was held at Hart Plaza in Detroit from May 24th to Monday, May 26th. We were able to take a sneak peek on Saturday, a day that was helmed by some of the hottest names in electronic dance music (EDM) and rap – this year’s lineup included Boys Noize, Carl Cox, Flosstradamus, DJ Snake, Jeff Mills, Tiga, Pete Tong, Carl Craig, and Ryan Hemsworth among others. Riff Raff premiered a number of tracks off his latest album, named The Icon. The overall vibe of Riff Raff was very endearing, but the overall song choice was a little confusing.
Action Bronson immediately kicked into high gear with his wrestler ode, Marty Janetty. The set ran through a number of his hits, showcasing the sheer rapping skill of AB. While his set was considerably shorter than Riff Raff’s, one simply cannot deny that he is one of the most fiery and hard-hitting rappers currently taking the stage.
The Plaza was the perfect area for the concert, allowing concertgoers the ability to see five distinct venues. Sennheiser held a silent stage, making available a number of their latest headphones. NeuFutur’s favorite part of Movement had to be the rave held underneath Cobb. The temperature of the outdoors was moderated considerably; the high energy here was enough to refresh and get people going. For those concert goers that were lucky enough to purchase VIP access, a cooled tent and considerable amounts of seating made the experience much more comfortable. A cordoned-off area allowed about five-ten people the abilities to lie on hammock.
The overall freshness of the crowd was high throughout the day, with considerable audience participation throughout each and every set. The different genres of each stage made it easy for individuals to find a properly heady groove and stick around, while the sheer size of Hart Plaza made the entire experience much more open and accommodating than similar sorts of festivals. The collection of vendors provided a number of fun distractions, with c-store supplies, handmade goods, and a variety of restaurants. While we had already picked up food before going to Movement, the large amount of food trucks and dining options made it downright easy to stick around the festival.

EYEHATEGOD: Louisiana Loudsmiths Announce July Dates
EYEHATEGOD, will take to the streets again next month on a brief but mutinous rash of live takeovers with Iron Reagan, Vektor and Strong Intention. Slated to erupt in Washington DC on July 10th, the band will level stages in six cities, the run coming to a close in Brooklyn, New York at Acheron. Additionally, EYEHATEGOD will make an appearance at this year’s edition of the Housecore Horror Film Fest in Austin in October with further live infiltrations to be announced in the weeks to come.
EYEHATEGOD continues to tour in support of their chart-toppling, self-titled new studio offering, their first in nearly 15 years. Released on May 27th via Housecore, the record continues to reap praise and widespread “fuck-yeahs” from fans and media both Stateside and beyond. Gushes Pitchfork in an 8/10 rating of the record, “After fourteen years, they’ve come out swinging, armed with yet another of their often-renewed leases on life and still spoiling for a fight. Eric Frisch Goodbye Birdcage CD Review
Goodbye Birdcage is a fun and hopeful album that will be eagerly devoured by any fan of rock, whether it be The Beach Boys or They Might Be Giants. Pretty Girls has a sun-drenched and slightly jazzy sound that highlights a set of lyrics which will tattoo themselves upon listeners’ minds and hearts. Learn to Swim looks further back to the nascent days of rock music; this 1940s and 1950s track is extremely touching and is created with utmost care. The track shines a spotlight on the vocals.
Heaven Only Knows has some of the most infectious multi-part harmonies ever committed to disc, with the raw, live sound of the choir providing fullness and richness in droves. The Sun in Santiago keeps the hooky, catchy sound of Frisch while taking on a nineties alternative feel. The album is united through smart instrumental arrangements and timeless vocals; these foci ensure that the replay value of Goodbye Birdcage is high. Chains of Logic Age of Progress CD Review
Age of Progress is Chains of Logic’s new album, and the 12 cuts on the album provide fans with a considerable amount of genres, styles, and looks into his soul. I Love You creates a dark and emotionally intense atmosphere that is punctuated through the rapid stylistic shifts that occur. As the track continues to gain speed, listeners will begin to pay attention – Chains of Logic is able to insert humanity into taut and detailed arrangements like no other.
Age of Progress has a twinkling dichotomy of light and dark that opens us, gradually becoming more chaotic. Chains of Logic are able to create a cogent effort that further expands upon the already deep repertoire available. Cause of Death is an epic track that gets into an infectious groove through ropy synth lines and spot-on vocal sampling. Photophore cuts out before the three minute mark but is so densely packed that listeners will be able to pick out new bits and pieces after repeated listening. Earth & The Next Society The 100th Monkey Review
Earth & The Next Society are currently preparing their latest effort, The 100th Monkey. Cheap Hustle has a soulful and funky groove that builds off of eighties rock into something vibrant and current. Confident bass, drums, and vocals elicit comparisons to Hall and Oates and later Eagles, while the bold and front-forward vocals ensure that listeners will be on the edges of their seats.
Awake and Alive is Earth & The Next Society’s own unique blend of rock and alternative. The hopeful sound of the guitars and drums highlight the vocals, creating an effort that s ready for online and radio rotation. There is an effervescence to this band that permeates all points, and is particularly evident in Goddess of Light. HATE Recording New Album
HATE are currently in the studio recording their new album tentatively named Crusade:Zero. The successor to 2013′s critically acclaimed Solarflesh will contain 8 new tracks and a few bonus tracks as well. The sessions are taking place at Hertz Studio in Bialystok, Poland with the Wieslawski Brothers behind the console. The band’s main-man Atf Sinner comments:
“We have been carving this monster for months and finally we have brought it to the studio! Pavulon has already finished tracking drums, which sound fantastic thanks to the new recording room here. Powerful, authentic drum sound! Now we are getting down to recording guitars. Everything is going smooth so far. As I mentioned before, these new songs are a definition of what HATE is, and with all the experience we gained, we are getting it all on the next level now.”

Gulp Share New Video "Vast Space"
Gulp is the latest project from Guto Pryce (bassist for ’90s-spawned Welsh psych-rock psychopaths Super Furry Animals) and features Welsh songstress Lindsey Leven on bewitching lead vocals. Their debut album is an amalgam of 21st-century electronic squiggles and vintage airy psych-folk.
In the new video for Vast Space Lindsey Leven’s beautiful head flies through another dimension of shapes, colors and absurdities.
Gulp’s breezily brilliant debut LP Season Sun glimmers brightly of its own accord, and is a refreshingly optimistic antidote to the creeping pessimism of modern life. Relying heavily on a menagerie of battered old analogue equipment, Gulp recorded and self-produced the record in a variety of places over two years; their own basement, several studios in Cardiff Bay and even a friend’s kitchen and a local community centre classroom proved more than adequate surroundings for the pair.

Dyanne Harvey Whiskey & Wine EP Review
Whiskey & Wine is the new EP from Dyanne Harvey, and it contains five new compositions that, taken together, paints a good picture of where Harvey has been and wants to go with her career. The titular track Whiskey & Wine is catchy, with both the instrumental arrangements and Harvey’s vocals tattooing themselves upon listeners’ minds and hearts. The track is destined for radio (and online) rotation and represents a fresh and fun deviation from what is currently on the charts.
Run has a bouncy and catchy introduction that opens up to a style that deftly blends together cabaret, blues, and country music. The powerful voice of Harvey during this track keeps the momentum of the release high, while the scintillating array of instruments here provide a fullness and depth that acts as the icing on the cake. A narrative is crafted here that ensures that listeners are on the edges of their seats. Truth Be Told is a confident and mature track that showcases the large vocal range of Harvey, while allowing the instrumentation ample room to expand. The track flirts with both pop and country styling, taking on just as much Stevie Nicks and Joan Osborne.
Don’t Grow Old Without Me is a tremendously emotional track that pairs Harvey’s vocals with a mournful and darkly emotive guitar. Sean McMorris Lo & Behold CD Review
Together has a blend of pop rock and mid-seventies styling; there is a current and contemporary feel to this effort that is provided further depth through the sheer eclecticism of the styles that McMorris has included here. The track Lo & Behold expands upon McMorris’ repertoire with slightly hard rock styling; the track comes forth as a blend of Matchbox 20 and John Maher while still having a bit of grit and gravel.
Did You Ever Think is a slower and more heart-felt track in the vein of early Elton John and Billy Joel. The piano line properly highlights McMorris’ vocals without dwarfing them. The intertwined instrumental and vocal elements are able to unite and create a track that resounds loudly with listeners long after the album has finished. Next to You has a deliberate drum line that gains momentum, with the resultant track settling into a soulful and funky sound. There is a dichotomy between these stylistic decisions that allows listeners of a wide array of genres something meaty to chew on.
More Than Meets the Eye is the final track on Lo & Behold and has an epic sort of sound. The deliberate and intense composition here tie together the theatrical rock of Rush and Queen while keeping a close and comfy bar-room sound. The sheer dedication to reconciling these two styles makes this a perfect send off for fans, as well as providing some indication to the styles and influences that McMorris may use for subsequent releases.
